Language
The first and foremost step to building a rapport with dragons is to first understand their language. The vast majority of dragons are not able to speak mortal tongue, and those that do are often doing so with the assistance of magic. We cannot fault dragons for this when we ourselves are in the same situation but reversed and even more severe- We cannot even hear the majority of their language. We, as mortals, are in no place to judge them for the shape of their jaws, as they are in no place to judge us for the sensitivity of our ears.
Introducing Yourself
Names
As with language in a more broad sense, names when dealing with dragons and their kin and be peculiar and unlike with other mortals. After establishing a language to communicate with your draconic host or guest in, it is common to establish a name with the dragon, and they will with you. Oftentimes, the names you and your conversational partner will be using will not be your birthnames, and this fact must be accepted early on. Names in dragontongue are exceedingly difficult to translate into mortal languages, and so dragons will most often pick a name that is a close approximation to the sounds that exist in the language you have chosen to communicate with them. Often, their name will vary depending on whom they are speaking with and their native language. This also often works both ways, as your draconic partner may also have extreme difficulty in being able to pronounce yours, and so many dragons will often give you a name in their own language.
