Woodren

The Woodren, also known as Tree Ents, Leshir, or Lesseny, are mythical beings believed to be the protectors of the woods. These bipedal, walking trees possess arms and faces, embodying nature's guardianship. Although it remains uncertain whether they possess true sentience, they are undoubtedly intelligent and act with clear purpose. The Woodren are extremely reclusive and can shapeshift into various tree forms, rendering them practically invisible when they wish. In contemporary times, they are more the stuff of legend, primarily found in folklore and Druidic teachings, rather than witnessed firsthand.   According to Druidic and Pagan faiths, the Woodren only appear when the forests face turmoil. These guardians rise to protect the woods from threats, embodying nature’s own defense mechanism. During the Great Migrations, numerous encounters with the Woodren were recorded. Tales abound of these beings opposing Human destruction and deforestation, particularly in the east, where they were often branded as manifestations of foul Elf magic or the work of trickster gods. Consequently, eastern legends depict them as monsters of the dark woods. However, the truth is more nuanced: the Woodren are not inherently hostile. They prefer to frighten away threats rather than attack directly. There are also heartwarming tales of Woodren guiding lost children safely out of the forests, painting them as benevolent beings to those who revere nature.   In recent history, sightings of Woodren have become exceedingly rare, despite ongoing deforestation. It seems they have accepted that their time as guardians might be waning, yielding to the rise of mortal influence over the world. Yet, they remain honored and revered by Druidic and Pagan cultures, which seek to protect these diminishing beings whenever possible.   Many believe the Woodren to be endangered, as there is no known method of their reproduction. Druids hold that they are willed into existence by the spirit of the world, while followers of the Old Gods view them as messengers and servants of their nature goddess. In both beliefs, the Woodren are seen as creations of a higher power, born from ordinary trees.   Often, Woodren are mistaken for Druidic Sentinels, and vice versa. However, the two are distinct: Tree Sentinels are constructs brought to life by Druidic magic, designed as bulky fighters to do a Druid’s bidding. In contrast, a Woodren heeds only nature’s call, embodying a gentle presence that tends to the forest rather than fights for it. The Woodren, with their delicate features and peaceful demeanor, represent a different aspect of the natural world, one that seeks harmony rather than conflict.   The branches of a Woodren are highly sought after by those who practice magic, particularly druids and shamans. These branches are not only incredibly strong and durable, but they also serve as powerful conduits for magical energy. A staff crafted from a Woodren branch enhances the wielder’s magical abilities, allowing for more potent and controlled spellcasting. The inherent life force within the branches grants them healing properties, making them invaluable for healing wounds, curing diseases, and purifying corrupted land. Moreover, the branches retain a strong connection to nature, enabling the wielder to communicate with and control plants and animals. This makes them particularly prized by those who seek harmony with the natural world. Additionally, a staff made from Woodren branches can grant its wielder the ability to blend into natural surroundings, becoming nearly invisible and perfect for stealth and evasion.   Obtaining a branch from a Woodren is no small feat. These reclusive beings do not part with their branches easily, and those who seek them must prove their worth and respect for the natural world. As such, a staff made from a Woodren branch is not only a powerful magical tool but also a symbol of the wielder’s deep connection to nature and their respect for its guardians. As such, a Woodren Staff is as legendary as the Woodren themselves.
