Sindrik Korzha - the Scorched

Biography

Early Life

Born to the mists and murk of the Boglands in eastern Ardechia, Sindrik Korzha's early years were a testament to the harshness and simplicity that the land offered. The soil, ever damp, and the air, frequently veiled in mist, cradled a life where the line between survival and peril was as thin as the wisp of fog. Wildland beasts prowled the edges of vision, and outlaws skulked in the shadows of the mire, making solitude a dangerous affair. Yet, amid scarcity, Sindrik's spirit found solace within the warmth of his kin and the toils of their farmstead.   This precarious peace shattered when a caravan of enigmatic travelers breached the village perimeter. Cloaked figures, peddling strange trinkets for provisions, exuded an air of urgency and veiled threat beneath their heavy garbs. The villagers, steeped in superstition, initially recoiled at the sight, only relenting under the weight of the travelers' persistence and their own desire to dispel the unsettling presence.   Alerted by the murmurs of unease, the village guard mustered to confront the strangers, a move that unraveled into chaos. The cloaks fell away to reveal Feynarin Elves, exiles of a bygone era, wielding the forbidden arts of magic, no doubt. With the practice of such powers condemned to death by the decree of the Church of the Mason, the revelation sparked conflict. Blades clashed and for a moment, the Elves held their ground. But as reinforcements swelled the ranks of the guard, the Elves, cornered and desperate, invoked their arcane fury.   The resulting maelstrom of Elven fire magic was indiscriminate in its wrath, laying waste to foe and innocent alike. Sindrik's family sought refuge within the brittle safety of their home, but the relentless flames consumed all, bringing their sanctuary crashing down upon them. The guards lay in ruins, the Elves vanished into the mist, and the village was reduced to cinders.   Rescuers from afar, lured by the beacon of smoke, unearthed a grim tableau of destruction. Amid the embers and ashes, they found Sindrik barely clinging to life, his body a tapestry of burns and bruises. His family was gone, claimed by the conflagration. The few villagers who had escaped recounted the horror, branding the tragedy as an Elven onslaught, a raid that ignited the first flames of retribution within the scorched heart of Sindrik Korzha.

The Church

In the wake of devastation, Sindrik Korzha was ensconced within the austere yet protective fold of the Church of the Mason. As a youth marred by scars, his seclusion and the heavy robes that concealed his disfigurement became his solace, and his dedication to service, his penance. The compassion of the priests became his refuge, earning him favor and the quiet envy of his contemporaries.   Rising to the role of a scribe, and later a priest, Sindrik's empathy for the orphaned and displaced became the hallmark of his ministry. His appointment as liaison to Shoalsbridge Cradle in Starigrad seemed a divine calling, until fate, with a cruel twist, summoned the specter of his past. The Shoalsgate fire, born from the chaotic magic of a child feared as a devil, once again enshrouded Sindrik in flames, decimating his haven and tearing him from the embrace of normalcy.   His survival, a sliver of mercy in a tapestry of loss, was proclaimed a miracle by the Church. It was a sign, they said, of his selection by the Divine Flame to fulfill a higher purpose. His pain and anger were honed into a weapon by the Red Inquisition, where he was charged with the eradication of magic, a mission he pursued with zealous fervor. In the flames of his twice-scorched life, Sindrik Korzha, now known as ''the Scorched'', found a new cause, his scars a testament to his unyielding crusade against the arcane and a vow that no other should endure the agony that defined his existence.

Personality

Sindrik Korzha is a figure carved by tragedy and hardened by resolve. Behind the impenetrable facade of his armor, one he is never seen without, lies a man of profound conviction. His personality is a crucible of contrasts, where scars have left bitterness, they have also fostered an unyielding empathy for the vulnerable. Sindrik harbors a deep-seated animosity towards magic and its practitioners, a reflection of the losses that have colored his past. In his silent vigil, he is both a guardian and a grim reaper, his presence is a solemn reminder of the Church’s power and the price of heresy. He is a man of few words, preferring the clank of his armor and the results of his actions to speak for him. Resolute and unwavering, Sindrik pursues his duties with a relentless fervor, his own pain fueling a relentless drive to shield others from the sorrows he has known.
