Orest Zubarov
Biography
Boyar Orest Zubarov was born into privilege and power, heir to a dynasty of tyranny and corruption. His father, Boyar Vasyl Zubarov, ruled the fortress-city of Tuscow with an iron grip, squeezing the wealth from his subjects and silencing dissent with ruthless efficiency. Orest was raised in this culture of absolute authority, learning that fear and control were the pillars of true power. When his father mysteriously perished, Orest swiftly claimed the title of Boyar, carrying on his family's legacy of exploitation.
Under his rule, Tuscow has only worsened. Heavy taxation, brutal crackdowns on rebellion, and a shamelessly decadent lifestyle have made him universally hated by his people. Yet, few dare to oppose him, those who do tend to vanish without a trace or end up as cautionary examples hung in the city square. His network of spies, enforcers, and informants keeps potential revolutionaries in check, ensuring that fear remains the dominant force in Tuscow.
Orest is also suspected of having deep ties to the criminal underworld, though no one has ever dared accuse him openly. Smuggling operations, extortion rings, and underground gambling dens flourish under his rule, provided they pay their dues to the Boyar. His personal guard is rumored to be made up of former brigands and assassins, loyal not out of respect or honor, but the sum of their payments.
Personality
Orest Zubarov is ruthless, cunning, and deeply paranoid. He trusts no one entirely, viewing loyalty as something that is bought, not given. Even among his most trusted advisors, he constantly suspects treachery.
While he presents himself as a cultured and regal ruler, this is merely a facade. Beneath it, Orest is greedy, arrogant, and cruel. He indulges in lavish feasts, excessive luxuries, and the suffering of those beneath him, seeing the people of Tuscow as little more than cattle to be exploited.
However, his intelligence and political savvy are undeniable. Orest is a master manipulator, skilled at playing factions against one another to maintain his grip on power. He understands when to use force and when to offer false promises.
