War of Ascension Military Conflict in Realms of Kleriel | World Anvil

War of Ascension

While much of the crisis remains shrouded in mystery, what is known stands as a testament to the grand scale of the conflict. The Elven armies clashed with the Dwarves in the dark corridors of the Under-empire. In their subterranean realm, the Dwarves turned every stone and corner to their advantage, matching the Elven magic and arcane constructs with their ingenious mechanical weaponry and automatons. However, the conflict culminated in a stalemate with neither side attaining their objectives.   The fate of the vault is still up for speculation. Some contend that the Dwarves, true to their word, destroyed it to deny the Elves the power they sought. Others suggest that the Elves reached the vault but were deemed unworthy of the divinity they pursued.   The aftermath of the conflict was nothing short of apocalyptic. A cataclysmic blast of power from the vault, situated deep within the earth, tore the world apart, creating an asteroid belt from the debris when magma hurled into the sky. The once-great Elven society was left in ruins, and the Dwarven tunnels were flooded with molten rock, while the world was plunged into a volcanic Ice Age. As a further blow, Arcane magic, the lifeblood of the Elven society, was all but exhausted. This event came to be known as The Cataclysm, a reckoning for the Elves and Dwarves alike.   The immediate aftermath saw millions perish, with countless more succumbing to the fallout in the ensuing days. The Elven society collapsed under the weight of its own destruction. Starvation swept through the populace, igniting internal conflicts as the Elves struggled to rebuild from the ashes. The Dwarves, confined to the perilous underground, faced near-extinction as magma flooded their majestic halls, shattering their once-great empire.   In the wake of the catastrophe, the northern ice cap advanced further south, marking the beginning of the Ice Age. This forced the primitive Humans from their northern habitats to migrate in droves, leading to the The Great Migrations. The ensuing conflict with the native Elves, now powerless, changed the balance of power.   The once-mighty Elves had fallen from grace, their world left in ruins, their gods having seemingly forsaken them. The Third World emerged from these ruins, a new era dawning on the remnants of the Kleriel Imperium. The grandeur and secrets of its power now lie forgotten, its legacy reduced to mere legends dotting the landscape.
