Sisters of the Veil

Sisters of the Veil

"Silent as the breath of death, unseen until it is too late."

Overview

The Sisters of the Veil are the Emperor’s personal assassins, spies, and enforcers of divine will. Sworn to absolute secrecy, their faces are never seen, their voices are seldom heard, and their presence is only felt in the moment before death.

These elite warriors operate in the shadows of Fijorn’s great war machine, ensuring that no enemy escapes the Emperor’s judgment, no traitor lives to speak, and no opposition rises against the divine throne. They do not fight for honor, for recognition, or for glory—they fight to maintain absolute order under the God Emperor’s rule.

None outside of Fijorn have ever captured one alive. Those who have tried vanished without a trace.

Hierarchy and Purpose

The Sisters are more than mere assassins; they are the executioners of doctrine, the silent hand of the Emperor, and the hidden guardians of Fijorn’s order.

  • The Veil’s Oath: Upon induction, each Sister is stripped of their former name and given a title based on their skillset. They are bound to the High Matron, and through her, to the God Emperor himself.
  • The Threefold Path: Every Sister is trained in three disciplines:
  • The Blade (Mastery of close-quarters combat and assassination).
  • The Shadow (Stealth, espionage, and information gathering).
  • The Silence (Interrogation, deception, and psychological warfare).
  • The Unseen War: The Sisters maintain an invisible war against Fijorn’s enemies, ensuring that any who plot against the Emperor are silenced before they become a threat.

Rites of the Veil

A woman may be chosen for the Veil through three paths:

  1. The Blood Oath: Those born within the hidden sects of Fijorn’s elite assassins. Trained from childhood.
  2. The Death Path: Those who survive execution but are offered a place within the Veil, forsaking their past lives.
  3. The Silent Calling: A rare selection where the High Matron herself chooses a candidate, believing them divinely ordained to serve.

Induction into the Veil is absolute. Once a Sister is sworn, she is bound for life.

Combat Doctrine

The Sisters of the Veil do not fight like soldiers—they hunt. Their battlefield presence is one of constant motion, appearing and disappearing in the chaos of war, eliminating high-value targets with precision before vanishing into the shadows.

  • No wasted movement: Every strike, every step is deliberate.
  • Hit and fade: They engage, eliminate, and disappear before retaliation.
  • Psychological warfare: Their mere presence instills fear, forcing enemies into panic.
  • Perfect coordination: Sisters fight as a single entity, understanding each other’s movements without the need for words.

They are deployed in wars, political purges, and high-risk assassinations. Their actions shape the future of Fijorn from the shadows.

Traits

Veil of Shadows.

While in dim light or darkness, the Sister of the Veil is invisible unless she attacks or speaks.

Silent Executioner.

The Sister’s movement does not provoke opportunity attacks, and she has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks.

Dance of Death.

The Sister of the Veil can take two actions per turn, allowing her to strike and reposition seamlessly.

Grace of the Veiled.

The Sister can move along walls and ceilings as if under the effect of the Spider Climb spell. She can also move through enemy-occupied spaces without triggering attacks of opportunity.

Unwavering Will.

Immune to mind-affecting magic and cannot be forced to speak or betray her mission by any means, magical or otherwise.

Actions

1. Twin Fang Strike (Melee Weapon Attack).

Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 14 (2d6 + 5) slashing damage plus 9 (2d6 + 2) necrotic damage.

  • If both attacks in a turn hit the same target, the target must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or suffer disadvantage on their next attack roll.

2. Shadow Step (Recharge 4-6).

As a bonus action, the Sister teleports up to 30 feet into an unoccupied space within dim light or darkness. She has advantage on the next attack she makes this turn.

3. Blade Dance.

The Sister dashes up to 20 feet, making one attack against any creature she passes within 5 feet. She can attack up to three different creatures during this movement.

4. Executioner’s Silence (Recharge 5-6).

The Sister releases a pulse of dark energy in a 15-foot radius. All creatures of her choice must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be unable to speak, cast verbal spells, or communicate telepathically for 1 minute.

Bonus Actions

Shadow Cloak.

If the Sister has moved at least 10 feet this turn, she may use a bonus action to become lightly obscured, imposing disadvantage on attacks against her until the start of her next turn.

Reactions

Evasive Dodge.

If a creature makes a melee attack against the Sister and misses, she can immediately move up to 10 feet without provoking attacks of opportunity.

Tactics

  • Strike and vanish: They never engage in prolonged combat.
  • Isolate and execute: They focus on high-value targets such as spellcasters, generals, and leaders.
  • Shadow coordination: If encountered in a group, they function as a single entity, attacking in a coordinated dance of death.

Final Notes

  • The Sisters of the Veil are elite assassins, spies, and executioners that operate in the shadows of Fijorn.
  • They excel at battlefield mobility, assassination tactics, and psychological warfare.
  • Their combat style is built around movement, hit-and-run tactics, and debilitation rather than raw damage output.
  • A party facing the Sisters should be wary of their ability to strike, disable, and disappear before counterattacks can land.
