Potion of the Crowned Ascendant
Potion of the Crowned Ascendant
Wondrous Item (potion), rare
Physical Appearance
This potion appears as a bottle of liquid sky-blue glass, refracting light as though it holds a slice of the sky inside. When shaken, faint trails of vapor spiral within the liquid like jetstreams in a storm. The cork is bound with silver thread and a single feather, sealed with wax shaped like a stylized crown.
Effect (Upon Consumption)
Upon drinking, a semi-transparent, spectral crown of blue light materializes and floats just above the user’s head. It ripples like mist and seems to resonate slightly when they move.
For the next 1 hour, the user gains the ability to:
Airdash – Movement Ability (Usable Once Per Turn)
- As a bonus action, the user may thrust both arms forward, making a sweeping “swim stroke” gesture.
- This somatic action launches the user in a direction of their choice, including straight upward, as if they were swimming through air.
- They may move up to 30 feet in a straight line (no attack of opportunity is triggered).
- The movement ignores gravity and terrain but cannot pass through solid objects.
- This can be used once per turn for the full hour.
Visual Flavor
- Each dash leaves behind a brief shimmering trail of sky-blue mist that vanishes after 1 second.
- While the effect is active, the user’s shadow does not touch the ground—it flickers just above it, like a mirage.
Aftereffects (Once Duration Ends)
Once the one-hour duration ends, the user suffers two side effects:
- Weight of the Sky:
The user feels unnaturally heavy. For 1 hour, their movement speed is halved and they disadvantage on Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks. - Faded Crown Syndrome:
The user cannot benefit from any magical movement abilities (flight, teleportation, dash enhancements, etc.) for the next 8 hours. Potions or spells that attempt to enhance movement fizzle during this time.
