Inkburst Webflare

Uncommon Magical Trap Potion

Appearance:

A small red-and-white striped alchemical canister, shaped like a festive skyrocket. It's no larger than a wand, with a twisted black fuse curling out from the base.
The corked neck is sealed tight, but faint pulses of shimmering black ink throb behind the translucent glass. Etched into the sides are arcane swirl runes, resembling coiled tentacles.

Activation:

To use, pop the cork and throw or plant the firework on the ground (takes 1 action).
After 2 seconds (1 round), the device fires itself upward, spinning in erratic corkscrews for up to 20 feet into the air or until it hits a ceiling/obstacle.

As it flies, the top erupts in a high-pressure stream of black arcane ink. The stream expands midair into a flying net-like spread of squid-ink, and then—
BOOM —it explodes silently in a wide burst of jet-black liquid webbing.

Effect Area:

  • 20-foot radius sphere centered on wherever it detonates (usually 20 feet above the caster, unless blocked).

  • Everyone in line of sight of the blast (i.e., within visual range and not behind total cover) risks being caught.

Entanglement Effect:

The dark ink-liquid does not splatter like typical fluid—it expands like a living net, latching onto any exposed surface it touches:

  • Creatures in the area must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or become Restrained, coated in hardened ink-webbing.

  • The substance solidifies within 2 seconds, becoming as hard as enchanted obsidian, locking limbs, weapons, and movement.

  • The webbing can be destroyed (AC 14, HP 25) with force or fire-based damage.

  • If not destroyed, the webbing dissolves naturally after 10 minutes into powdery ash.
