Missing Mage Mystery, Part 2 Report
General Summary
The autopsy on Dr. Bordeaux proved that she was killed by having her throat cut two days ago, yet further investigation found a flight going to New York and then on to Lisbon by Dr. Bordeaux the day after she was killed. Recognizing the need to continue their investigation in Portugal, Maelstrom requested an emergency extension of the teams operating licenses to include Portugal only in an effort to speed up the processing. These were granted and the group quickly made their way to Lisbon.
Once there they identified the rural plantation (owned by Cavalreio Fidalgo Bonifacio Moises Henrique) that Dr. Bordeaux was taken too and Coyote and Cassiopiea even found the taxi driver that drove her there and pumped him for any information he could give, which wasn't much. The group arrived at the hacienda, a large building surrounded by numerous grape and berry fields. A large barn was set off in the field and a very obstenate butler originally proved a difficult obstacle to enter the house. Thanks to Hellfire's enchanting powers, the butler was quickly convinced to lead the way to Dr. Bordeaux. While the majority of the group went inside, Amoxi flew up above the house to keep an eye on things.
Following the butler around the main staircase going up, the group found a couple of obvious security people guarding a door in the side of the stair case. These security elements were quickly dealt with, but not before an alarm was raised. Flux sealed the group in the small alcove next to the stairs while Sam S.P.A.D.E hacked into the house's systems, initially locking the doors. Much of the group attempts to rush downstairs, finding a group of robed cultists and security, many armed with assault rifles and other firearms. At the roof, Amoxi heard a loud bell begin to ring and could see movement of the hands in the field towards house.
In the basement, the heroes made fairly quick work on the gunmen and even handled the cultists performing combat magic with aplomb, but not before one of the cultists opened the door at the back of the antechamber. This revealed a large vault chamber, the walls lined with casks for aging wine, but the center of the room was dominated by a large bonfire that several other cultists were busy throwing books, papers and other documents into. While fighting it was revealed that Dr. Bordeaux was one of the cultists in the room as she announced that the Incrementum Exquisitae Carnis (Growth of Exquisite Flesh). Actions were taken to temporarily freeze the fire, and Coyote killed several cultists by teleporting to the top of the house, dropping them, and then returning to the basement. Amoxi dealt with several horse-mounted riflemen, the first of the hands to make it back to the house.
During the combat, at least four of the cultists, including Dr. Bordeaux, were able to grab an article and teleport away. Hellfire encircled the house with a massive wall of fire to provide the group with cover to grab as much of the remaining materials as possible and leave the scene to see if they can determine their next course of action.
