CUNTS Issue 2: The Missing Mage Mystery Part 1
General Summary
Maelstrom and Amoxi have been doing press junkets around the Plague Rat capture, while those injuried members of the group healed up and recuperated. Kaylee and Coyote hosted a team dinner on the Divine Inspiration, although Sam S.P.A.D.E. has been too busy with side cases to make it.
With inactivity gnawing at them, the Alpha C.U.N.T.S were finally called up to looking into the disappearance of Dr. Chartreuse Bordeaux, Head of Occult Research at K.A.R.E.N. subsidiary Psykercorps. Dr. Bordeaux had been a no-show for four days, but an out a character email was sent to her team only two days ago saying that she would be unavailable for awhile. Several books were also identified as missing from the Psykercorps library for the entire time that Dr. Bordeaux has been missing. Hellfire, Cassiopeia, Coyote and Flux all head out to the Psykercorps lab housed at the Subjective Esoteric eXperimentation Yard research facility, while Sam S.P.A.D.E and Maelstrom stay at the K.A.R.E.N. tower on the groups offices on floor 82 to do some research on Dr. Bordeaux. Amoxi flew off to check out her house by himself.
Arriving at Psykercorps, the group met Dr. Benjamin "Ben" Hamilton, Dr. Bordeaux's second, as well as the rest of her team: Tyson, Richard, and Catherine. Cassiopeia found a paper of interest in Dr. Bordeaux's office, while Hellfire found an interesting binding enchantment on the whiteboards in the lab that she accidentally triggered on herself. While Dr. Hamilton was getting things together to undo that, and invisible Coyote decided that she was going to walk across the detailed and complex sand mandala that had been constructed inside of a massive copper ring bolted to the floor in numerous places. As soon as she did so, Hamilton started trying to bind and identify the unknown entity. Coyote tried to teleport out of the circle only to be rebuffed back to the middle and electrocuted by the magic of the circle. She revealed herself and Hamilton allowed her to leave.
While all that was happening, Sam and Maelstrom were able to dig up quite a bit on Dr. Bordeaux's personal life, such as it was. She was a very focused person with no family and no close friends outside of work. It appears (based off an old high school talent show video Sam found) that she has had an interest and facility with magic since she was at least 15. She is an acknowledged expert in Occult studies in general, but controlling, binding and summoning magic in particular. Sam left to join the group at the lab, while Maelstrom left to back up Amoxi.
For his part Amoxi saw nothing amiss with a overhead flyby at the house, but discovered that Dr. Bordeaux had added additional handprint scanners to the security system for the house and detached garage. Having been authorized for "mild violence" Amoxi forced open the back door of the house and explored it quickly. He quickly deduced that whomever had been living here had been only using the bare minimum of facilities and left little trace of themselves. While he was exploring, two security robots emerged from the garage. As he was about to confront them, Maelstrom arrived with a little help from A.L.I.C.E. and shutdown the house defenses. Searching the garage they found a space for a missing vehicle (A YAMI-Benz Shadow) and a mage's workspace and desk. There was evidence that books were missing from there as well. Finally in searching the perimeter, the two heroes found a shallow grave just past the woodline.
Back as Psykercorps, the group finished terrorizing the lab (with Flux clearing the messed up sand from the circle altogether) and went down to security. From the security logs and talking with Marc the security guard, several interesting details were determined. Roughly five weeks prior Dr. Bordeaux reported that she had lost her access card. A new one was issued, and through some unknown glitch the original card was not properly disabled. In the week after that there are numerous corrupt periods in the security logs. Two significant things were able to be recovered from those corrupt records: the first being that Dr. Bordeaux normally keeps a regular schedule of arriving at 7:45 in the morning and leaves around 11:30pm and the second that there was one moment during that period that she was concretely in two places at once (the library and reception). Also during that fourth week in the past, Dr. Bordeaux began regularly showing up at work with a bulky backpack and large briefcase.
The session ended with the group getting ready to regroup, with Amoxi and Maelstrom taking the body of Dr. Bordeaux that they found in the grave to be autopsied back at HQ.
