Cogsmas

When the weather turns cold and the winter feast approached Gnomes begin preparing for Cogsmas. Cogsmas is the traditional giving of small clockwork toys to children and occasionally other adults. These creations range in size and complexity from small mice scurrying on the floor to large mechanical beasts capable of pulling a large wagon. Some gnomes spend all year prefecting their designs and making them as lifelike as possible. Richer gnomes may enlist the services of mages to add extra function to their creations. The gifts are typically given the week before the winter feast. However they are not given directly to their recipient. Instead a large gathering is held typically in a large hall and the givers are supposed to send their creations to find their new owners. It in not taboo to give the gifts directly but most gnomes agree that it is more fun for it to be a bit of a game for the children. Clockwork animals given to adults are often given more privately but still the giver usually refrains from directly handing the animal over. After the main giving event is over a variety of games and competitions are available for the children to play with their new toys. Races, climbing, and scavenger hunts where the mechanical animals are tasked with finding a hidden goodie bag filled with sweets.
