Overview

The sky sprinters, otherwise known just as 'sprinters' look like a strange crossover between a rowboat and a cart. They are used as transportation to taxi people around the various districts of Ravnica. The idea originated in Eberron where larger ones, the size of a ship, are used. This was seen by the living Guildpact, the planeswalker Jace Beleron, he brought back the concept and called a meeting with some of the top people the ten guilds, Izzet especially. He wanted a faster, more reliable way for people to move around the sprawling urban mass that was Ravnica. Many prototypes were design and finally the Sky Sprinter was produced.
These sprinters work by way of binding two elementals inside specially constructed chambers, one is an air elemental to keep the thing in the air and another is a fire elemental. This latter one produces the thrust needed to propel it around while special mechanisms direct that force to get it moving in the required direction.

Construction

Constructed from a wooden framework and wooden interior decking and seating, the rest of the body is made of a special steel that doesn't corrode or get damaged by the energy radiating from the elementals, especially the fire one. Mizzium, is used in the more vulnerable areas like the engines as this can tolerate the heat produced and prevents damage to the rest of the structure. However these are regularly maintained by the Izzet league just to ensure nothing goes wrong as prevention is better than a cure. The ring underneath where the air elemental is bound is made of a specially toughened glass that is highly durable and resistant to damage and the high pressure contained within as the creature inside spins at high velocity to produce the lift required. This ring is held in place by brackets also made from mizzium.

With space for 4 or 5 passengers (of average size, loxodons and minotaurs excluded) plus the pilot, the sky sprinter is perhaps the most convenient way of getting around the city for those who want to spend the coin. Why walk or travel by cart etc. on ground level when you can fly?
Since it's inception 30 years prior, this method of travel has been increasingly popular as travel time to the other districts has been dramatically decreased. Controls have now had to be put in place to regulate the traffic in the skies due to it's popularity as well as the rocs and all other manner of things flying around, to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
