The Bleeding Sun
According to the scripture of the Covenant, when The Archlight died, He was not killed completely, for He is a god, but He was weakened and trapped in the Underworld. Because of this, the greatest piece of His power in the mortal plane, the sun itself darkened as if covered by ash in the wake of the Archlight's physical destruction. This caused the world to become darker and colder. During the day, the weakened sun gave off a sickened light, bathing the sky a bloody red on a clear day, and a strange gray-orange when clouded over. The weakened light gave more power to the creatures of the night such as the Vampyr, allowing The Hollowing to curse the land centuries later. Because of the colder weather and weakened light, plants have difficulty growing, and a famine would have spread through the land killing thousands had it not been for the divine magic granted to Saint Ophiria, who called upon the Archlight's mercy and was granted the means to use magic to make plants and animals adapt to the new environment.
Manifestation
The sun casts a weakened light over the skies of Ravainia, as if the atmosphere was in a constant state of volcanic winter. The sky when overcast is a sickly shade of gray tinged with orange, and when dark at the time of twilight or a storm becomes shades of violet and purple. During a clear day, the shining sun creates a bloody red sky, which the Covenant calls the Blood of the Archlight. Despite the curse over the sun, the light of the moon is unaffected and still shines silver, save for the nights of lunar eclipses, which the people of Ravainia believe bring ill-omen. It is unknown to mages and scholars exactly why the moon is unaffected by the sun's weakened state.
Localization
The sun is weakened over the entirety of the mortal plane, yet as Ravainia is the center of the Covenant of the Archlight and believed to be the place where the god was killed, it is believed to be the center and cause of the effect.
