Valorine, without hesitation, embraced this chance to transcend his origins and stand as a beacon of redemption and loyalty in the pantheon.

Relic of The Servant: Last Word of Valorine

"He carried the burden so others could breathe. He bore the gun so others didn’t have to. And when the silence came… it spoke only truth."

Weapon (Pistol), Rare (requires attunement by a Warlock, Paladin, or Fighter)
(Firearm proficiency required; may be reflavored as a crossbow or arcane focus in lower-tech settings)

Initial Form (Level 5–8)

  • +1 magical pistol, reload 6, range 60/240.
  • Unseen Duty – You may cast Shield of Faith once per long rest without expending a spell slot. When cast this way, the effect must target an ally other than yourself.
  • Whispers of Redemption – You gain advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks when speaking in defense of others or pleading mercy for the forgotten and accused.
  • Devil’s Recoil – Once per short rest, when you hit a fiend or undead, it must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 13) or be pushed 10 feet back and unable to take reactions until the start of its next turn.

Awakened Form (Level 15–20)

(The weapon’s design evolves—engraved with infernal sigils crossed out by draconic script, the barrel polished to celestial silver, and the grip wrapped in a blue-feathered binding.)

  • +3 magical pistol, deals 1d10 piercing plus 2d6 radiant damage. Ignores resistance to radiant and non-magical damage.
  • The Loyal Trigger – When an ally within 30 feet is reduced to 0 hit points, you may use your reaction to teleport to their side and immediately make a single attack with Last Word. If it hits, the ally is healed for radiant damage equal to half the damage dealt.
  • Chains Severed – You are immune to being charmed or frightened. You also gain resistance to fire damage.
  • Voice for the Voiceless – This weapon holds 3 charges. As an action, you may fire a radiant shot of conviction. Instead of damage, the bullet carries your will:
  • One creature hit by this attack must succeed on a Charisma saving throw (DC 18) or be compelled to speak only truth (as if affected by Zone of Truth) and becomes silenced if they attempt to lie.
  • On a successful save, the creature instead takes 4d6 radiant damage.
  • Regains 1d3 charges daily at dawn.

Narrative Use and Themes

  • Last Word may first appear as a battered, mundane firearm left at a gravesite, on a battlefield, or in the hands of someone trying to walk away from violence.
  • Its awakening is tied to an act of sacrificial loyalty or servant-hearted defiance—e.g., the wielder chooses another's life over victory, protects the innocent at personal cost, or defies infernal command.
