Relic of Angel: The Lucky Pair

"Aim true, walk bold, and never forget the kids are watching ."

Weapon (paired pistols), Rare (requires attunement by a Fighter, Rogue, or Warlock)
(Can be reflavored as paired crossbows or arcane foci in non-firearm settings.)

Initial Form (Level 5–8)

  • +2 magical pistols (or crossbows), each named Hope and Chance. They share a pool of ammunition; firing one does not prevent using the other.
  • One in the Chamber (1/short rest): When you miss with an attack from either pistol, you may immediately reroll the attack with advantage. If the new roll hits, you add an additional 1d6 radiant damage.
  • Sharp Grace: You gain advantage on initiative rolls and Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks while holding both weapons.
  • Orphan’s Gambit: When you roll a natural 1 on an attack, saving throw, or skill check, you may immediately regain 1d8 hit points as divine luck shields you from despair. Usable once per long rest.

Awakened Form (Level 15–20)

(When awakened, Hope and Chance glimmer with streaks of gold and spectral cloverleaf etchings. They emit a faint jingle like lucky dice when drawn.)

  • +3 magical pistols, dealing an additional 1d6 force or radiant damage (your choice) on hit.
  • Deadeye’s Reversal: You may declare a missed shot as a "ricochet"—once per turn, when you miss, the shot can bounce to strike another target within 15 feet of the original. Make a new attack roll against that target.
  • Saint of Strays: Allies within 10 feet of you have +1 to all saving throws. NPCs of CR 1 or less (such as townsfolk or city guards) automatically succeed saving throws against fear or charm effects while within 30 feet, and have advantage on saving throws to avoid damage.
  • The Double Draw (2 charges/day): You may fire both Hope and Chance simultaneously at different targets as a single attack. If both attacks hit, roll an additional 2d6 damage against each target, and force the targets to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 17) or be stunned until the start of your next turn.
  • No One Left Behind: Once per long rest, if a creature you can see within 60 feet would be reduced to 0 HP, you may fire a spiritual shot that instantly transfers 15 HP to them, preventing them from falling. This shot can even cross planar boundaries (e.g., through a scry or sending link, or from the material plane into the Ethereal Plane) if the connection is emotionally significant.

Awakening Trigger:

The Lucky Pair awakens when its bearer puts their life at significant risk for someone with no power—be it a street orphan, a dying comrade, or an innocent bystander. The trigger must be done not for glory or reward, but from the simple belief that "someone had to do it."
