Relic of The Fisherman: Throntide, the Commoner's Spear

"A net mends faster than a kingdom. But both start with strong hands and honest work."

Weapon (Trident or Spear), Rare (requires attunement by a Fighter, Paladin, or Ranger)
(Can be reflavored as a fishing spear, harpoon, or sailor’s pike depending on setting and culture.)

Initial Form (Level 5–8)

  • +1 magical trident or spear, versatile (1d8/1d10).
  • Tide's Grasp – When you hit a creature with this weapon, you may pull it 10 feet closer to you as long as it is Large or smaller (no action required; once per turn).
  • Salt-Bound Kinship – You gain advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened while within 120 feet of a body of water or on a ship. Additionally, allies within 10 feet gain a +1 bonus to death saving throws.
  • Dockside Blessing – Once per long rest, you can cast Create or Destroy Water or Purify Food and Drink without material components, flavored as a divine act of sustaining the people.

Awakened Form (Level 15–20)

(As it awakens, the spear takes on the appearance of driftwood reinforced with ancient coral and golden fishhook runes. The weapon hums softly, as though echoing the surf.)

  • +3 magical trident or spear, deals an additional 2d6 radiant or thunder damage (user’s choice) on a hit.
  • Wrath of the Sea King – When you hit with this weapon, you can expend a bonus action to summon crashing waves of force. All creatures of your choice within a 20-foot cone must make a Strength saving throw (DC 17) or be knocked prone and pushed 15 feet back. Once per short rest.
  • Blessing of the Tides – While attuned, you may breathe underwater and gain a swimming speed of 60 feet. Additionally, your voice can be heard clearly by allies even in storms or underwater.
  • Fisherman's Mercy – Once per long rest, when an ally drops to 0 hit points within 30 feet, you can call upon Thornton’s divine grace. That ally instead drops to 1 hit point and immediately receives temporary hit points equal to your level.

Awakening Trigger:

The spear awakens fully when its wielder sacrifices personal glory or opportunity to protect common folk—choosing the safety or survival of the innocent over tactical gain or personal vengeance. Examples might include shielding civilians during an attack or choosing not to kill an enemy who surrendered to protect their village.
