Stoneback Lurker
Mechanical Predator Construct (CR 4)
Description:
The Stoneback Lurker is a squat, crab-like automaton built from heavy stone and rusted plates, designed to mimic the look and shape of a natural boulder. Built by artificers like Merric Gearspark to serve as ambush predators or sentries, they remain perfectly still for centuries if needed, hidden among rubble or ruins. When prey draws near, the Lurker unfolds with startling speed, revealing jagged claws and a glowing arcane core.
Fighting Strategy:
The Lurker lies in wait, activating only when a creature comes within 10 feet. It targets lightly armored enemies first, using its Core Pulse to disrupt casters and its claws to grapple and pin foes. If heavily damaged, it retreats into a hardened shell state, becoming nearly impervious for a short time.
