Hype

History & Usage

History

Hype is a chemical substance made by Orcish tribes during the early wars with Elves during the early period of the Second Halcyon. During this period, Elves developed Yoyo to aid their soldiers in counteracting the terrible sieges and prolonged battles started by the orcs. However, as this material began to be distributed in the war effort, many Orcish parties eventually came upon Yoyo. However, due to Orcish physiology, the product was less effective and gave diminished symptoms. Seeing that the material was alchemically valuable, but unsure what to do, the brightest Orcish alchemists were set out to find a use for Yoyo.   The resulting concoction is the notorious Hype. When Yoyo is melted down in large quantities, and then mixed with waters or juice, it presents an powerful mixture that proved to be a remarkable stimulant in the war effort. The extreme addictiveness of the substance meant little when a person consumed it, as it would give them immense stimulation, making them truly fearsome warriors in combat.    After the Orcish wars, many broken khanates and tribes began to produce Hype on mass, selling it to black market traders. Robberies of pharmacies or traders who were transporting Yoyo were commonplace, and when push came to shove, legal sourcing of Yoyo was not difficult. The ingredients allowed Orc tribes to have a steady stream of income, while pushing the otherwise deleterious material on other souls.

Everyday use

Hype is a combat stimulant. Although the drug provides a dramatic boost in happiness and morale, it is also known to block pain reception as well as increase reaction time of the individual. The actual affects on the phsyiology of individuals is still broadly unknown, but a long list of changes in the body can be seen upon consumption.
  • Improved speed.
  • Improved reaction time.
  • Improved sight and darkvision.
  • Improved concentration.
  • Reduced pain.
  • Psychic hypersensitivity.
This makes the drug very valuable in many different circumstances. It is especially popular among soldiers, mercenaries, and most prominently, gladiators, who value all of the effects that it has to offer. Hype is also valuable in rogue and thief circles, taken just before an operation to aid in ability and execution. Although it is not a traditional recreational drug, it also has found its unique place of prominence among normal drug use and artists.

Hazards

Hype is incredibly addictive, with even a single dosage of the material giving a high chance of becoming addicted. Further, the withdrawal symptoms of the addiction are intense, some insisting that it is one of the worst drugs to be addicted to due to the suffering it causes. Withdrawal symptoms will slow an individuals ability to walk, reduce their concentration and general health, reduce their ability to see at distance. It will also make them ravenously hungry and incredibly tired, along with extreme levels of pain, especially as the withdrawal continues into its later days. It is also a drug that causes chemical hungers, often convincing those in withdrawal to treat the pain with different chemicals, often further worsening the symptoms the user was already feeling.
