Acrisia

Acrisia, the 5th planet in the system, is a wildland planet. It’s most notable feature is easy enough to see, a tremendous tree that extends high above the atmosphere, out into Wildspace. It is known locally as the Tree of Mana. This tremendous tree, hard to judge by scale of its sheer size, is seen as a holy relic by spacefaring fey beings, even though much of its relevance is not well understood.   The reason so little is known is because Acrisia is not a spacefaring world. The Keepers of Acrisia are a group that oversee the planet from a small flotilla of spelljammers that orbit the planet, making sure spacefaring vessels do not enter before first being screened. The Keepers of Acrisia are made predominantly of elves, kalashtar, githzerai, aasimar, and gnomes. The elves and kalashtar seek the space for its holy relevance to their cultures, while the githzerai seek its protection, and have recruited a large number of aasimar for the task. The gnomes seem to be there for the fascination of maintaining a long-term fleet of orbiting spelljammers. All these races, however, are united in protecting Acrisia from adventurers who would seek to exploit an unclaimed territory in the solar system. The Keepers of Acrisia are hostile to any who attempt to land on Acrisia, particularly those who seek to interfere with the comings and goings of locals to the planet. Until the natives of Acrisia have gained access to spacefaring technology on their own, it is the belief of The Keepers that they should be left to their own devices.   Acrisia itself is a land of wilds. It is remarkably similar to that of the Feywild, except on the mortal realm. Connections to the feywild from Acrisia are as normal, but it seems to have simply developed as it has all on its own. In this state, it is a very pure space of fey design. The majority of the planet is mixed between dense forest and lush fields, with all manner of fey, beasts, and other native creatures inhabiting.   Small human dominions exist within the open and rolling fields, or near craggy mountains and valleys, while elven societies litter the landscapes of the forests. All manner of other fey are common: full, undisturbed communities of dryads and satyrs, sprite and pixie communities, unicorns and blink dogs, and chwinga who call the planet home. Although none of these creatures are inherently rare, seeing them in such an earnest, open state, free from strife is indeed a rarity outside of the feywild. The only complications come from the humanoid races upon Acrisia, and even they are largely outnumbered. Shifters also seem to be native to the realm, as well as Changelings. Other races of prominence include many Lizardfolk, more than elsewhere in the solar system. Tabaxi, Yuan-ti, Tortles, Firbolgs, Kenku, and Kobolds find homes here.   Acrisia also has a unique problem not found on any other planet: something known colloquially as The Mist. This substance occurs as some form of Miasma, although the source itself is unknown. What is known is that when it propagates throughout the land, at random intervals, it creates many negative effects. For fey beings, it begins to drive them to madness over prolonged periods of time. For lesser fey beings, they are turned more quickly. Beasts become empowered, hostile, feral, and violent. Even humanoids are not immune, as they either succumb to madness or their feral instincts. This Mist has also bred dangerous orcs who seem to thrive in these conditions. Furthermore, the Mist seems to bring the dead back from their former selves in a form of undeath, while also acting as gateways to more hellish realms.   None of this can be explained by researchers, who simply wish to see how the world will tame its strange magical nemesis on its own, without interference. What can be said from the minimal research that has been done is quite vast. Areas nearest to the Tree of Mana are infused with Raw Magic. The leylines in this space enhance all magic casted within it, circumventing many of the normal restrictions one would require for 9th level spells and beyond. Many researchers fear that such uncontrolled, powerful magical leylines may at some point result in an event like the Spellplague on Rakuen.   Beyond this, there are concerns that the Tree itself is sentient, and has some influence over the planet. Others are curious whether the Mist is not a result of the Tree itself, but for what purpose, none can say. Until some later date, Acrisia remains under its own threats, and perpetually guarded from interference.
