Jakharo becomes a warrior

At age 16, in the second summer solstice after his battle, Jakharo is given the chance to forge his own Star Steel knife. Because it comes out perfectly done, the Clan believes Jakharo was indeed a gift from the stars.

It is the second summer solstice since the Battle of Jakharo. Young Jakharo couldn't be made a warrior in the first one since he was younger than 16, the minimum age, but today he is given the chance to prove he's worthy in the eyes of the star spirits.   In the day the sun lasts longer in the sky, Jakharo enters a smith-cave, alone with his tools and a piece of Star Steel taken from the Sacred Meteor. He comes back hours later with a perfect Star Steel knife, his weapon of Warriorship that proves he has learnt enough about the fire and steel spirits and that they see him worthy. That's also an adoption ceremony, because if he had been born in the Clan, he would have inherited a knife from his ancestors.   The knife turns out to be perfect, and the Clan sees this as a proof he was sent by the stars to become a warrior of Meteor Clan. Also because of this, Great Leader Alrich is pleased and announces he has decided to engage his niece Ía and Jakharo as soon as the girl, currently 11, has her first blood.
