The warrior Daichi, after finding out about his work in the city, finally has an excuse to challenge Jakharo and get the place in the pack he was always meant to have. He challenges Jakharo for the Alpha's position and kills him thanks to some poison in the food. He becomes then the new Alpha of Rainwinds.

After learning about Jakharo's other pack, Daichi finds a way to take his, in his words, "rightful place in the pack". As he knows he can't defeat Jakharo in battle, he approaches Stormclouds for help, and they provide him a strong poison to weaken the Alpha in exchange for territory when he's the new Alpha.   Feeling weak but unable to decline the challenge, Jakharo is forced by the law to fight Daichi when he challenges him. It is a long battle, however, until Daichi pins Jakharo down and asks him for his last wish. Jakharo knows he is about to die, and that Daichi is forced to respect his last wish; he can only protect one person, so he asks his mate for forgiveness and makes Daichi promise he won't hurt his son.   Then, the challenger kills him. Jakharo dies as a Rainwind, at 45 years old, and is buried in the forest with no ceremony but the prayings of his family.
