Grimsweaver

A rare and mysterious card game created by the god Loki and observed amongst their most devouted followers - Grimsweaver is a game where arcanely infused cards summon constructed creatures to battle on a grid with the goal of reducing an opponents Grim Token to 0 points. Played amongst a narrow few across the Aedrinaran Islands, only a select few Grimsweaver arenas can be found - each ran by a champion.   13 Grimsweaver arenas exist across the Aedrinaran Isles, all in temples of Loki or sites of religious signficance. Decks can be found at most temples or shrines or carried by those that have dabbled in the game before. Nobody knows for sure where the decks originated from, as no site actually manufactures them, the decks simply 'appear' at temples as if placed their by the gods themselves. Non-magical decks created by acolytes do exist and are played for fun in some temple communities.   The purpose of the game is veiled in myth. Supposedly Loki has promised a great treasure to any that becomes the supreme champion of Grimsweaver by defeating all the champions. When a champion is defeated, they must hand over their token to a challenger. If a challenger is defeated, their tokens are returned to the former champions. The nature of the reward is unknown, and in a conversation with Val Loki stated they locked the secret behind a mythal, so not even they are aware of what it is.

Rules

The goal of Grimsweaver is to reduce the other player’s Grim Token to 0. A Grim Token is a player’s representation in the game, and is shown using on octagonal copper coin with a serpent on it. Each grim token has 50hp and can be attacked by playing cards and activating their abilities.   A grim token can only be attacked if there are no cards on the field. A maximum of 3 cards per player can be on the field at a time. A total of 12 cards be played in a single game. If a player runs out of cards, they are automatically defeated.

Set Up

The game requires two players with a minimum of three cards each. Each player must shuffle their deck, then play twelve cards face down in a pile. These 12 cards are the only cards they can use in the game, unless otherwise stated. Once a card is defeated, it is put into the discard pile.   Each player draws and plays one card each, then they determine who goes first by rolling 1d6. The highest number goes first. If it is a draw, re-roll the dice till someone has a higher number.

Actions

Each player has three actions per turn – these are called Action Points (APs). They can do any combination of the following two actions.   Draw
A player draws a card from their deck and holds it in their hand. A player can have up to 6 cards in their hand at anytime.   Play
A player plays one of their cards in their hand and places it in on the board.   Activate
A player uses one of their cards abilities. These will usually correspond to a type of action, such as attacking with a weapon or casting a spell. Examples are listed below:   Attacking
If a card has the ability to attack, you do not need to roll to hit. Simply roll the damage dice. You must declare what card your attacking before you roll the dice. If that card has the multiattack feature, you can spread these attacks across multiple cards.   Spellcasting
If a card has the spellcasting ability, you can activate one of its spells on your turn. Usually, each spell has a limited number of uses. Unlike in normal dnd, you can cast more than one spell per ‘turn’ from the same creature, each one will cost you an action point.
