Session 45 - Great Extemporal Rescue
General Summary
The Lords and Ladies of Neverwhere have made some of their first changes to the timeline. And now, they are beginning to see some of the damage that comes from this. Several people are beginning to feel the effects of being paradoxed, and now exist in a partially static state which requires rescue. But how do you rescue someone from causality itself?!?!
We survived. We survived the Armageddon Engine!
The Armageddon Engine
Neverwhere continues to be in Danger though. Thist time but not in the Present but from the Past. Be it through the Destructive force the Shattering was, or their own medddling, the Lords of Neverwhere saw that their own citizens were ripped apart through time. And thanks to Sam's scouting, they knew which dying part of time they had to go to, to save them. And through a nudge from Zirmek and Snurgi, Shaded Grove has been mastering his Power as Lord of Space and Shadow, learning to move fast around. With all their powers, they hoped to rescue people from a Time that shouldn't exist and travel into the Dead Past. Also there was a Tarrasque.
They knew they would not succeed at fighting Destruction incarnate, they had to find people quickly, as they saw the Monster approaching across the Bridge. Though the Enchantress thourgh some Mind magic not only made the Tarrasque step down of the Bridge into the large river below, it also reveals that the Tarrasque itself was confused and terrified, and more vulnerable to their magics. So with that, the Lords went into Actions. Sam set up a sniper position to keep track of the beast. Shaded Grove and the Enchantress went into the City to find the Civilians and get them out. Zirmek flew up into the skies and casted Wall of Force to prevent the Tarrasque from climbing out immidietly, while Xian set up Wall of Blades to discourage the Tarrasque to go down the easiest path. And Togalt.... just charged the Tarrasque.
Togalt was not afraid of the largest being he has ever seen. It was a challange he was ready to fight head on! And thanks to his Blade, he was not hindered by the water. Another adventage for the Monster Hunter. Though it took a bit to cross the city for him. The Tarrasque was angered and struck at the Wall of Force above him, which held for the moment. Shaded Grove and the Enchantress continued to save civilians, Sam continued her Watch and Xian also prepared the battlefield more. Togalt managed to get into melee with the beast! And Zirmek put down a Wall of Force between him and the Monster because he wanted the Lord of Might to survive this stunt. Which the Walls did, holding out for 12 seconds under the barrage of claws. Togalt as the wall dropped and the Water of the river flooded back in, took two swings, 1 miraculously hitting, and the other despite being nearly as perfect... missed. With that insight, the Hunter of Beasts decides that Discretion is the better part of Valor, and let himself take by the strong flood to safety, together with the small Poppet which was eager to rip into the Tarrasque.
Zirmek out of magic to bring up more Walls, instead teleported to the furtherst corner of the city, to check it so that the people on foot didn't have to spend the time getting there, and indeed people were there and desperate for Rescue. Which they now figured out they could get out of the City to Neverwhere. They were truely ruler of the place and could claim them to go back, to reunite with those fractured citizens.
While in the meantime, the Tarrasque unable to follow Togalt under the Bridge, has mananged to break down the second wall of Force and climbed up the first one ontop of it, using it to get to the bridge easier. Sam took a few shots at it, but it was not deterred. Zirmek though had an idea and supported by Shadeds Distance distorting magic, managed to shoot down with the assisstant of Cutty, the Wall of Force down beneath the Tarrasque feet, making it tumble down again. But that would only hold it back for so long and Togalt was still busy getting out of the way.
Xian setting up the last few Walls of Blades in that area, then shouts out via Magic for every citizen to gather at the West Bridge to safety, which did succeed at drawing out the desperate, taking any chance of Rescue.
Zirmek watched this all from a Distance and noted that they didn'T check the area past the east bridge and... the Tarrasque was now coming in the direction of the Lords and the civilians. Knowing it might spell his Doom, he taunts the Tarrasque which luckily understood common enough to understand "Did you like my Walls?" The Tarrasque immidietly charged down Zirmek, running through hundreds of magical blades, getting shredded even further, but it did not care. It was on the Goblinoid shaped Abomination immidietly and nearly with a single swipe cut him down. But Zirmek had a plan.
With using Time and Teleportation, he got out of there, and reached the space beyond the east bridge, where there were indeed still a few survivors, including Sam's Crush, Kiyoko. But now Zirmek was out of his most powerful spells and another useage of his Time Jump would leave him vulernable. And the Tarrasque was charging him down again, running through the blades. Togalt run at the Tarrasque trying to distract it, but the angered Armageddon Engine was not to be detered. Xian tried to summon a Hound Archon to distract the beast. but the Heavens saw how dire the situation was, and send a whole Troop of Hound Archons, which some even miraculously got some hits in. But the Tarrasque was charging down Zirmek. Once again though, Zirmek had a plan.
He tried to not only get the Civilians to Neverwhere but himself included, trusting his fellows to finish the Job. But as soon as he started it, he knew he woudldn't have enough Time, he would be left behind and killed by the Beast. But Time was something he could work with. With a desperate act of his Occult Might, he stopped Time long enough to jump through the portal, not ending up in the Safety of Neverwhere, but at least next to Sam, a decent distance away from the Tarrasque. Which was now utterly enraged. But then a Miracle happend. Through the hits of Togalt, the Hound Archons, the falls and the many many MANY cutting magical Blades summoned by Xian.... the Tarrasque in its blind rage got cut down. It layed there, still for the Moment. And the Hound Archons rushed in, stabbing on the beast to make sure it would not move until the civilians were rescued.
Taking in the Trophy of an Eye and of a Spike from the Armageddon Engine, the Lords of Neverwhere had rescued everyone from this Dying Strand of Time, leaving behind destruction, and having done something that should be written down in Legends, if it had ever happend. Time is a Weird thing in Neverwhere. Neverwhere is a Weird place in general. But it will be save, if the Lords of Neverwhere have a say in it.
