Session 37 - Ulric Calls for Aid

General Summary

With their work in the Naphtali Halcyon hardly done, a call comes from home: Ulric needs their assistance. The Kingdom is fighting a war of desperation against another dragon that has laid siege to their easternmost cities. With their options dwindling, the Kingdom once again turns to the Chaos Marked.   After the chaos the group sowed in the now-mobile Castle Roderick, the monarch wouldn't turn to the Chaos Marked if there was any other reasonable way forward...

With the success of the Chaos Mark group in addressing the source of the "solar flares" -- an umbral dragon trying desperately to hijack whatever was going on -- the cosmic thread took the strange dungeon along with whatever soul power drew it away, leaving the sun to return to a quieter state that didn't risk the destruction of the contents of the Halcyon.

This done, the party was able to do some looting, and a Chrysalis was used to transmute the one surviving skull fairy into a chaos fairy not unlike Lanasia. Of course, this impossible speed up of the process of reincarnation resulted in her paradox manifesting in repeated trips off of the deck of the ship, through the drain hole in the railing and into the drink again, and again, and again, and again! Not that Lanasia seemed to mind, especially since Lamurias kept fishing the poor naphtali out with his tail.

The group then attempted to make their way back to Tel Lachish, attempting to avoid the Leviathan, which followed the group anyway. After many misadventures with fishing -- and some fun group activities combining conventional fishing with magical spells -- the group ran into the Leviathan, who informed Fey Lord Cadok that Tonbarony had need of them. This ended up both confusing Cadok and worrying them when the Leviathan created a Water Elemental Vortex that deposited them in the bay of the City of Roderick.

Arriving there, they found that the King Zenaly Ulric the Second had been kidnapped by a dragon, and in their desperation, they were calling for the Chaos Mark's help. After the shenanigans of time past, they wouldn't have asked if the need had not been dire, and of course the Chaos Marked did as they asked.

Which resulted in meeting the dragon Dericrith, the kidnapper of the king. Of course, instead of just trying to attack the group, the dragon wanted something from them in trade for the safe return of their king: assistance with the reclamation of treasure that the dragon wanted. And now, the group has to decide: do they assist the dragon in this in return for the king? Or do they risk attacking the dragon directly? Or do they do both?
