Session 37 - Through the Living Door Part I
General Summary
The Lords and Lady of Neverwhere are busy recovering from Sam's time travelling shenanigans, which has changed major things, like Mae's past, who was now been Togalts girlfriend since they met in Neverwhere.
But under Xian's care, Sam recovers which leads them to prepare themself for their expedition into the Portal inside the Dhuthorex which was still technically alive. First Xian would create more healing potions for the party which would definitly be of great use.
While in the meantime the rest of the group wandered over to the Forge, to improve their gear. What they instead witnessed was a failed attempt to utilize the Tarrasque's Spine, to create a weapon. The Spine instead started to destroy everything it was in contact with, until it was magically contained and deemd too dangerous to work with.
With that debacle out of the way, they started to get to work, creating a new armor for Sam, for Togalt and tried to make a new robe for Shaded Grove though that was more or less a misfire, so they had to get a new cloak from the Webweavers, which Zirmek gladly teleported over so that the exposed Catfolk did not have to walk through half the town.
With all those preperations made, they Rulers of neverwhere headed into the magical Door, which thanks to the Key Sam brought back from one of her travels, didn't lead into a deadly Winterland. Instead it lead them into a disgusting fleshy corridor, reminding them of their last journey into the Far Realms. But they did not have long to inspect it, because Zirmek's mind picked up the thought of plenty of creatures around him, where there should be non. But that was more then enough to prevent a deadly ambush by the horde of invisible Brain Collector, which were supported by Skeletal Mages rising from the pools. Which were honestly more of a nusance since their magic did not seem to scartch the self-declared Nobles, one of them even destroy himself with his fumbling magic.
The Brain collectors though were another issue, swarming the Lords, attacking all of them from the sturdy warriors to the mighty casters. Togalt and Shaded Grove had little issue with that, used to being in the frontline, Sam was a deadly enough shot and with her new armor was able to hold onto the onslaught. Zirmek and Xian though were completly exposed. Zirmek unleashes Fear onto the minds of his enemies surrounding them, which even got one to completly flee, which was only enhanced by his Armor of the Rathien hero. While Xian was very busdy keeping everyone alive, on the cost of his own, making sure they could pull through this. But with Togalt clear his side rather quickly and Shaded Grove coming to the aid of the normal backline the threat was quickly subdued.
With that threat dealt, the Lords continued their exploration, finding a powerful Staff which could be used to upgrade Narashtin's place, once they got to rest.
They pushed deeper in, breaking in through walls of meat, sneaking through the tight tunnels until they encountered a group of familiar enemies. Gugs, Togalt rushes ahead to face them, but he himself gets rushed from the side by a new enemy: a Grotesque monsters which haunts the depths of Haar Byth and the Shadowfell, a Gogiteth. Its hundreds of eyes staring at the mortal prey. Sadly it climbed the wall over a pool of lava(?), which with a slight telekinetic push, Zirmek tossed it right into. To ensure they would not get rushed, Xian creates a distracted way back in the tunnel, to confuse the enemies which ahve yet seem him, giving them breathing room to finish the two foes. Which they did, with Togalt even tossing the giant Gug into the other Laval Pool. And Shaded Grove covered Togalt as the Gogiteth emerges from the pool, and despite getting extremely hurt together with Togalt, together they managed to defeat these terrifiying enemies.
But more was approaching, and they decided to retreat temporarily to treat their wounds and plan their next step.
