Session 32 - Resurrection Sickness Too : Well of Souls
General Summary
The vanguard of undead has been dispatched, but now the greater force must be found, using only the clues that can be gleaned from the vanguard. Can the Lords and Ladies of Neverwhere unravel the mystery and take the fight to the home of the Undead Blight : the Well of Souls?
Today's journal comes from Zirmek, the Mighty!
After the Group had a rest, and Sam having shenanigans involving a teleporting Ferret, the Group continued their search for the Source of the current Ongoings. Shaded Grove's familiarity with the city brought a Dark Revelation. The Souls were not wandering into this new part of the city, but into a place the Lords of Neverwhere were keenly familiar with: Tavern Terrifico.
The Party was about to rush ahead, when they noticed a missing Mae, who somehow got herself stuck into whatever part of the Etheral Plane existed within Neverwhere. Seeing her safe, if unreachable at the moment,she would follow them from the other side, as they charged to the now abandonend Tavern. Zirmek quickly notices the errant thoughts coming from within, as Togalt and Shaded Grove open the door. They faced 4 modified Intellect Devourers. Instead of their usual hunger for brains, those rather controlled Bodies of their Victims for a distance. They had grabbed Tadashi Terrifico, Shauna, and Ingrid, who they send forward as meatshields. The group charged in, ready to free the captives, as they came also under fire from the side, from another Zirmek Clone, but this one seemed just as much a puppet under the Abberations.
Despite the difficulties, they managed to kill the Intellect devourers, with only knocking Shauna unconcious and freeing the other two Citizens of Neverwhere. The Zirmek Clone though, as soon as their Puppeteer fell, turned into a twisted unknown Goblin, impaled with Psi-Crystals, which dropped immidietly dead to the Ground.
Facing Dread from Below
But the fight was not over. as soon as the Abberations fell, a flood of Souls came from the Ground and swimming in it, was an Abberation known as a Dhuthorex, but an Extremely Powerful of its kind. If it was this Powerful when it came to Neverwhere, or if it became like this, engorging on the Souls it was not sure, but it was clear, this usually aquatic entity was the culprit of the Soul Siphoning.
It devourered Togalt who through only his brute strenght managed to free himself, and the rest went to heal their powerful friend. Shaded Grove charged through Teleporting magic to his side, accidently freeing Mae from the Etheral Plane back to Neverwhere, where she quicklyed aided Togalt by casting a powerful Enlarge Spell on it. Sadly that made her a prime target, and she would have died at the Jaws of the Dhuthorex, if Zirmek used a new temporarel ability of his to delay the horrofic wounds, giving Xian enough time to heal Mae enough so that she only fell unconcious, instead of dead.
With that, the Lords of neverwhere pushed the powerful Beast into desperation, and it successfully planeshifted away from Neverwhere, surviving the encounter, but also interrupting whatever Ritual it was performing.
Uncertain where the Monster will show up next, the Lords of Neverwhere, take a breath, and will prepare for the next encounter.
