Session 31 - Resurrection Sickness

General Summary

A banshee has been put down, her corpse given proper burial and her spirit at rest.   But all is not well in Neverwhere, as a green mist begins to seep from the deep places, and an army of undead, wearing conspicuous forehead jewelry, shamble out in search of brains and goblins.

This session brought to you by Zirmek, the Mighty!

Resurrection Sickness

The Day seemed to start normal. The sky was sunless and bright as normal, Sam sneaked around in a new church full of robed figures, glowing lights appeared in the sky, Togalt was carried unconscious into a new room in Mothers Milkbags...... After this rather unusual morning even for Neverwhere, the Group woke up and got ready to come together, Togalt meeting a strangely robed Kitsune, and finding Emerald Thirst covered in gifts and paintings and a rubber duck. THe party found themself together in Zirmek's Ziggurat, in which they discussed the events outside over a few cups of coffee. Deciding that this needs to be investigated, the Lords of Neverwhere, plus Mae on Sam's insistence, went to investigate the new area, from which a giant church stood on top which was surrounded by the strange lights. The Lords were greeted by an ominous congregation of knife robed Kitsune, which one stepped fourth and tried to scare the Lords with a skeleton mask. LUckily she gave up on the Ruse before they attacked her rather then flee. With that they could discuss the circumstance to the newcomer and learn that these were the Kitsune of Ventax, a Sanctuary for the hunted Race, before the Shattering occured, the Observatory crashing into it and creating Mount Ventax. Apparently these Kitsune had done a Ritual to displace them in Time to save themself, though even with those circumstances, they also have the common affliction of lost memories.

While the Lords went into the Church to investigate the Lights which seem to stream to it, discovering through the scholars of the group that these were not some lights, but souls. Their origin are unknown, but the group further descends down and finds hundreds of Catfolk and Kitsune in glass tubes in trance, drained from their life and even starting signs of Farm Realms infection. While Zirmek proceeds to accidently insult the Kitsune Xian and Shaded Grove investigate the Victims and found a lead on where the energy and the souls were going, further into the city. With that the group moved, until they came to a part of the city covered in corpses. Also Sataruki was with them, and Mae was suddenly gone. Zirmek immediately confused pulls out the Meanwhile Lantern, confirming that this was not Bruce's Guardian, but a Meanwhile which had tried to get the jump on them, but was now just burning under the magical light. Before they could further discuss this and look for Mae, a scream distracted them, and from around the corner, they could see a Troop of Undead, coming closer and seemingly responsible for the slaughter.

The FIght started with the Undead retreating and the Lords chasing after them. Most of the Undead seemed mindless but their Leader, was giving commands and talking. As soon as it saw Zirmek it gave the message, "Tharadax sends his regards" which infuriated Zirmek. Until the Undead used a magical item to teleport the goblin-adjacent Psychic in the middle of their group, seperated from his friends by a wall of grease fire. With that set, the rest of the party charged in, except Sam who continued to give cover fire and kill the mages and knights together with Xian who rained divine magic upon the vile undead. Shaded Grove through teleportation got close enough to blast the enemies with his spells, to hopefully create an opening. While in the meantime Togalt charged the enemies down with all his might, Zirmek got beaten close to death, and knew if he didn't act now, he would be doomed. Even worse they had prepared one of the skeletal spellcasters to counterpsell him, if he tried to teleport out. But Zirmek did not need to teleport (and was in fact incapable of doing so). INstead as the creator of Time within Neverwhere, he used his magic to halt time briefly for everyone else, and waltzed off into a nearby building. When Time ran normal again, the intelligent undead was enraged about seeing Zirmek gone without a trace and charged the still visilbe Lords and Lady of Neverwhere. Which turned out to be a mistake since now they were in mlee range of the mighty Magus and the Brutal barbarian, who carved into the leader. Together with the supportive fire of the other casters (Zirmek joined them after a couple of healing potions) the enemy troop was destroyed, with only one of the Skeletal Mages escaping via Dimension Door. Now the Lords of Neverwhere heal up to quickly find the enemies base of operation, before they could prepare more surprises for them, and to safe all the living and dead souls whcih are being used by Tharadax next evil scheme.
