Session 24 - Resurrectio Report in Raan | World Anvil

Session 24 - Resurrectio

General Summary

The students of the Aedificium are lost, and now, so in Norm. But there is a failsafe in the control room whose nature is unclear. What is clear, however, is that all the power of the Aedificum, and what Norm sacrificed to it, have only charged it halfway. What kind of effect could consume so much magic and STILL not be complete? Can the group find a suitable way to supply the rest? And what of the notes that Norm left behind?   All these and more the Lords and Ladies of Neverwhere must answer if the Aedificium is to live again!

Today's session dealt with picking up the pieces of having lost Norm and the students, and figuring out the best way forward.

Wait, Where Are The Beds?

Today's session began with the coming together of several members of the group. Sam and Ingrid from Mother's Milkbags, with the moppets making sure she had a complete document about what the failsafe was and how to use it. Zirmek from a walkabout to try and better understand what had and was going on with the Aedificium. And Tordan from spending time with Coriolis and Little Bruce, teaching them dwarven smithing techniques and marshalling their help to fashion a suit of plate armor.

With the group together, the fact that Norm was gone was shared, as well as the fact that the Aedificium had somehow become nonfunctional with a single exception: the Failsafe system. Now informed fully about the system thanks to Sam's access to other Norm-fashioned moppets (at Mother's Milkbags) they discovered that the failsafe system could be used to bring people back, but required inordinate amounts of power, especially when bringing them back required something so grandiose as resurrection. To this end, the group realized that they would need to feed it power, and thus resolved to get a good night's rest.

This was interrupted, however, by a group of interlopers who were responsible for at least one death at Tavern Terifico (whose life was lost is still unknown, sadly). Strange fleshy men that left wet footprints. Shaded Grove was instrumental in using his skill of navigating the ins and outs of town to track these creatures to their hideout, a small district area that seemed to be meant for storing and redistributing cargo. The group wasn't expecting a big fight, but ended up getting one, and that was before the mastermind of these strange creatures revealed itself.

We used to call them Alboleth

Though the Alboleth sought to bring the group under its sway, its abilities failed to secure a definitive advantage and sustained damage on the part of the group brought it and its minions down. With the resolve and heroics the Lords and Ladies of Neverwhere are known for, they were all destroyed, and the Alboleth's artifact that allowed it to survive in this strange, water-less environment was collected from its corpse, likely to be used as fodder to power the Failsafe device. The session ended as the combat wound down and our players headed to rest.

Highlights

  • Tordan is doing well teaching Coriolis and Little Bruce dwarven forging
  • Coriolis does great work on armor ... so long as he has the formula the right way up. Little Bruce is excellent for helping in this regard.
  • Siri can do a lot of decent damage even when having gotten no rest
  • Alboleth are creepy and their Dominate ability is dangerous.
  • Doors continue to be dangerous opponents, though today they were traps turned against the enemy!
  • Togalt continues to bring the pain with a huge sword and a rage-fueled storm of cuts.
  • Shauna's ability to screw with the enemy continue to grow in capability, scope, and power; now she is using illusions to turn the dangerous traps known as DOORs against the enemy!
  • Ingrid is squishy; she's going to need a Regenerate spell to get that lost kidney back.
  • Puprika is dangerous when infuriated. She bit off the face of one of the enemy combatants.
  • Ingrid is dangerous when given the chance to be sneaky; her use of the firebomb blinded and neutralized one of the enemy combatants.
  • Zirmek continues to be a scary, fear-inducing combatant.
  • Zirmek's many personae continue to help them in combat, as well.
  • Shaded Grove continues to remind folks that when he has the chance to lay down some precision damage, he can perforate an enemy in a mere two attacks (right to the face, too; ouch!)
  • Sam continues to do consistently good damage, even from across the battlefield.
