Striding Stallions

The Striding Stallions guild is an organization that supports veterans and anti-military individuals who have trouble adjusting to the everyday life, as well as makes use of their skills. They are bodyguards for hire, effective and reliable.

Keen Eye

The members of the guild make sure that whatever person they are guarding will meet no harm, and as such are experts in seeing possible trouble before it makes itself known. The subtleties of malice and aggression do not escape them. As a member, one would have advantage on perception and investigation rolls when looking for danger.

Adaptability

The military life is full of training, mindless following of orders, treating its soldiers as weapons and seeing them as numbers. The Striding Stallions make sure that you realize that you yourself are not the weapon - the weapons are the weapon. Training for training's sake turns into training for the sake of learning, growing and improving, as well as making the clear distinction between the "you" and the blade, spear, shield, bow, etc. The more weapons you know inside out, the more you can grow. Besides - versatility is useful in the job! As such, they can use any weapon and teach how to wield a specific one to anyone they spend enough time with.

A Certain Look

Every bodyguard should have an aura of "do not mess with me", and the Striding Stallions certainly do! Their idea of how conflict can be avoided best can be summed up as "the best way not to get attacked by a shark is to not enter the ocean". By making sure that they make any possible troublemakers stir clear of making any kind of trouble, they make their own job that much easier. Long story short, if you feel intimidated? Good.

Ranks

The Striding Stallion's ranks don't form much of a hierarchy, but serve as a way to make sure that everyone knows what everyone is doing. They go as follows:
  • Progeny is the rank given to newly admitted members. They retain this rank until they settle into a more appropriate role, given their skillset.
  • Striding Spirit is the most common rank - these members are going to be the ones that help keep people safe. Depending on the task, the standard price for a hire are between 15-30 gold per Striding spirit.
  • Corral Caretakers are healers in nature. Medical experts that tend to the wounds of the members get paid on a more regular basis. The Stallions' guild does get funding from the Guttolean military. That helps, since these rarely get the jobs of hired muscle. It would be a waste of their time.
  • Stable Smiths are members that are masters of the blacksmithing art, crafting durable, powerful armor and creating weapons as well, if necessary. Every Stallions' outpost has at least one.
  • Stallions are the leaders, the only ones above the rest that are put in charge of taking care of their outposts. They assign higher-risk jobs as well as divide the earned gold, but they are as strong in their might as they are in their hearts. They, more than anyone else, understands the pain their guild goes through each day and each night, reminiscing involuntarily about the past. They try their best to assure a better future.

What might your character know?

The Striding Stallions guild is mostly just bodyguards, give or take a few that heal. They seem both very friendly and almost sad when in comes to interactions with guards and soldiers though.
Some say it's because they lament their fate, seeing their guild membership as a safer, less life-threatening alternative. Their origin is rooted in grief, and though it is public knowledge, it isn't widely known.

Those who are of the Striding spirit rank may apply to a local Stallions' station as looking for a job, giving you more opportunities to earn money. When you get assigned for a job and have your party with you, you may want to send them to scout the area to see why you need to be hired in the first place - nobody ever said anything against cooperation.   If anything, it is highly encouraged.
