Half-dragon
Half-dragons are sentient denizens of the world of R'Ondell. They are born as a result of a dragon and mortal humanoid union. They are similar in appearance to dragonborn, however, they have two three fingers instead of five. They also lack any sexual dimorphism, have no reproductive organs and are unable to naturally reproduce.
Appearance
The scales of half-dragons are identical in colouration to their dragon parent. Differences between them may develop occasionally, however. Chromatic half-dragons may have discoloration patterns that differentiate them from their parent, most often around the arms, shoulders, thighs and back. These patterns tend to be a darker, duller shade of the rest of their scales. Metallic dragons do not develop any patterns, but their appendages may have a slight gradient to them.Draconic traits
The most common trait for half-dragons are bone-like horns, usually growing from the top of the head. Their shape and number varies from individual to individual. It's rare for a half-dragon to not have them. It's also common for half-dragons to have tails. Though not as common as horns, it's a prominent and frequent feature. It has been observed that if the half-dragon is of gnomish descent, they're less likely to have a tail. In cases of orcish descent, tails are quite rare. Some dragonborn may grow gills. These tend to develop later in adolescence, roughly around the age of 15. Wings are possibly the rarest trait for dragonborn to inherit. Only roughly one in one thousand half-dragons have them, and even then, they may be too small to allow the individual to fly. Nevertheless, they serve as quite useful natural shields, as they carry a partial regenerative ability.Basic Information
Growth Rate & Stages
Half-Dragons mature at around 20 years old. During this time, their draconic traits develop - some earlier (horns, wings or tails present since birth), some later (ability-based developements, for example: breath weapon)
Their lifespan depends on their mortal ancestory, being twice its length. For example, a half-dragon of human descent could live up to 160 years old, and a half-dragon of elven descent up to 1600 years.
