The Discovery of Ak'Nurr

Civil expansion during the fourth dusk era was a burgeoning pursuit for Xournish culture, especially in the eastern kingdom of Nobrenna. Long left with high populace counts and nowhere to house the latest generations of citizens, homelessness was troublesome until the declaration of dusk era economic changes. As such, religious taxes were moved to exploratory ventures for companies of aspiring journeymen to find new lands to settle. This act prompted the foundation of several towns now holding a balanced sustainability, however it also brought new knowledge to the dangers of the desert region in the north.
The first band of caravans that set out to establish a grounds on the sandy border did not return with reports of a successful find. Rather, the only news came from a man found unconsciously riding in on an exhausted horse that had been uncoupled from its coach. Six days did he ride directly south--spent of sustenance and barely sound of mind--to bring a warning of gnolls on the arid front. The entire expedition had been ambushed, their supplies taken and the other horses presumably eaten. Only in self preservation did the outrider manage to escape.
And so, Nobrenna made a call to action. Cruel creatures were found spilling blood on the threshold of their door, and they would respond in kind. Partway through the second century of the fourth dusk era a fledgling force of some eighty-odd soldiers spearheaded a second endeavor. Fiercely tenacious but small in numbers, the lupine monsters were driven back in a matter of days. Since then, a checkpoint has been established at the cliff side border of the sun bathed waste, and hamlets have cropped up on the grassy perimeter.
Where civil man previously assumed nothing could live, they'd been proven wrong. Nowadays scouts are sent seasonally to track movements and behavior of these newly discovered tribalistic denizens, although little has been gleaned from their seclusive ways.
