Dou's Bounty

To the west of Virdwel's densely populated civil region lies the sweltering steppe of Dou's Belly, within the Perl Flats. This stretch of land, although scarcely populated, is just as lively and diverse as its neighbors. The majority of citizens in this area, no matter their race, are nomadic. There is only one major staple city in which all travelers pass through, and it is no surprise that this is where festivities and gatherings take place.
Miyunlao hosts a static population of approximately thirty thousand, most of which being the nimble feline humanoids of the Vi tribe. During celebrations, however, this population swells nearly threefold as men, small folk, and draco-humans of their respective clans arrive to make rest and revel in their travels. Once a year all of these travelling hunters and crafters collaborate to track and hunt the most venerable perlisaur roaming the steppe. This is widely considered a funeral rite for the massive gentle herbivores and a ritual honoring the cycle of life. Scouts spend weeks beforehand tracking the best target to hunt, and when the hunt is called all of the best pack beasts are brought in the effort so as to haul everything back to Miyunlao for use.
This entire event lasts up to forty days and nights, and is referred to as Dou's Bounty. After a successful hunt festivities spill out of the city with song and dance, tournaments of strength and cunning, and constructed displays that are burned in honor of the event. Even after indulging in a modest feast much of the perlisaur's meat is leftover to be cured and dried. Its hide makes for excellent shawls and armor, and the bones are massive enough to be used as foundations for construction. Since the hulking beasts are so docile it is considered an act of treachery to hunt them any other time of year.
