Arkarren

Arkarren is a plane linked to Narini, where souls go during nightmares.  

Realm of Nightmares

Arkarren was never intended to exist, and formed seemingly on its own. For unknown reasons, the Gods found themselves unable to remove it from the Multiverse, and it has remained in Narini's pocket dimension ever since.   Occasionally, a soul is transported to Arkarren instead of Narini when its owner falls asleep. For some reason, this is more common in children or people who have recently been scared or traumatised. While in Arkarren, a person's memory of their life in Pyris remains, and they are fully aware of the situation they are in. However, in most cases, they will not be aware until they wake up that is was a nightmare and does not affect their life in Pyris. Their physical forms also remain the same in Pyris, and they have no control over the nature of the nightmare, only their own actions. Sometimes, a soul will remain trapped in Arkarren, unable to escape unless they find a door out of Narini's pocket dimension. This is very rare, however.   Arkarren is a terrifying and uncanny place, in a constant nightime, littered with corpses and warped monsters. Every pain that is inflicted by something in Arkarren remains in their awake life in Pyris, and all the traumatic memories that they experience here are also passed over. Arkarren is controlled by strange forces that like nothing more than to terrify the poor souls that enter. Some people that return from Arkarren claim to have seen the thing that controls the plane, with almost all accounts describing it as a warped reflection of themselves, looming over them from the sky and taunting them.  

Locations

Most of Arkarren is barren wasteland, ravaged by storms and stalked by monsters. However, their are a few towns and cities, where survivors that are trapped within the plane camp out and survive. Unfortunately, though, over time, these cities have become infested with the horrible creatures that scour the land, turning these survivior settlements into cursed cities of death and slaughter.   At the center of Arkarren is the Veiled Circle, a smaller part of Arkarren that can't be left once it is entered. It is far more dangerous, and the air is polluted and foul. Spending more than a day there can cause even the strongest of minds to descend into madness. If they are quick, one can escape via the Bloodfell Pit, a well of blood that leads to a door out of Arkarren and back into Pyris.   The largest city in Arkarren is called Death, and is where most souls first arrive at Arkarren. It is dangerous and filled with monsters and killers, where just one night can be your last.  

Stuff of Nightmares
