Carcinites

Carcinites are an umbrella term for numerous individual species. After the cataclysm, many sentient creatures saw their DNA altered. While this didn't alter their forms, their future generations were forever changed. A recessive trait, some children born after the cataclysm had a chance to be born as carcinites, humanoid crustaceans without the power of human speech.

Different cultures treat carcinites with varying levels of admiration and disdain. In some cultures, they are viewed as a blessing. The birth of a carcinite could foretell blessed crops, good fortune, or terrible doom based on their shell patterns alone. This mixed blessing often impacts the newborn's life forever.

Carcinites sometimes converge into shared communities. Their ability to produce children of their own is uncertain and appears to be based on the genetic compatibility of the prospective parents.

Armor

You have thick and solid shell plating covering your body which grants you +6 Armor.

Semi Aquatic

You can hold your breath for 15 minutes before checking for drowning and are used to being under water.

Cannot Speak

Without traditional vocal chords, you cannot speak normally, though you can communicate with other Carcinites. Other ancestries can't "speak" Carcinite but may learn to understand you if they take the proper Language skill. You can hear and understand other typical languages and may communicate in other ways, such as writing or signing.

Outsider (Minor)

Carcinites are unusual and always make a heavy impression on others, whether for ill or good. You subtract 2 from Persuasion rolls made to influence those who aren't your own kind, as many are too awed or terrified to accept you.
