Veraxi
The Veraxi are a race of reptilian humanoids native to the tropical world of Vostea, located within the Ezu system. Among the various reces that occupy the Proxima Galaxy, the Veraxi are best known for their high intellect and ability to quickly learn new knowledge, talents that they used to quickly dominate their homeworld and, eventually, take to the stars. Today, the Veraxi are considered to be one of the most technologically advanced races in the galaxy, and proudly claim many great scientists and technologists to their name.

Male Veraxi are taller and have more colourful scales, while females have slightly sleeker physiques.
Genetics and Reproduction
The Veraxi are an egg laying species.
Ecology and Habitats
The Veraxi prefer living in warm, wet environments like the tropical forsts of their homeworld, though they are capable of surviving in other environments as well.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The Veraxi are omnivorous.
Additional Information
Facial characteristics
The Veraxi have reptilian heads, with two slit-pupil eyes and a fin-like crest on their head, with a similar yet smaller crest on either side.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
The Veraxi are spread out across the galaxy, with the majority of their populations being concentrated within the systems held by the Veraxi Technocracy and their homeworld of Vostea especially.
Average Intelligence
The Veraxi have above average intelligence, and are capable of learning new subjects at a slightly faster rate than most other species.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The Veraxi possess keen eyesight, and are capable of seeing colours more vividly than most other sapient races. Additionally, many Veraxi are capable of developing the potential to use Psionics.

Beauty Ideals
The Veraxi consider a keen intellect and vibrant colours to be attractive traits.
Gender Ideals
While Veraxi society is highly egalitarian, with ones intellect being their most prized trait, there are some gender-specific expectations on how that intelligence is applied to be found. As females often play the largest role in raising children, they are typically expected to serve as teachers or mentors, while the males are expected to pursue more high-risk ventures, such as exploration or on-site research.
Courtship Ideals
It falls on the male Veraxi to do the courting, and both parties are very particular about who they wish to court.
Relationship Ideals
The Veraxi are monogamous, settling with a single partner after a lengthy period of courting.
Average Technological Level
The Veraxi are considered to be one of the most technologically advanced races in the galaxy, and have been at the forefront of many advancements. In particular, they have a keen interest in, and affinity with, energy based technologies, including shielding, energy weapons, reactor designs, and energy production.
Common Dress Code
Veraxi fashion commonly features sharp, straight lines, and has an overall "sleek" aesthetic to it.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
Among the Veraxi, the expansion and pursuit of knowledge is held up as one of the great pillars of Veraxi culture. Since their early days, the Veraxi have always been a curious and exploratory race, and these traits, combined with their ability to pick up new subjects at a slightly faster than average rate, were what allowed them to quickly rise to dominate their homeworld, and eventually the stars beyond. These traits continue to be celebrated among the Veraxi into the modern day, with occupations such as researchers, physicists, and scholars being highly coveted occupations.
This focus on intellectual pursuits also ties into their meritocratic outlook on society. Among the Veraxi, one's competency and ability to accomplish a given task are considered the biggest deciding factors in assigning tasks, particularly anything related to leadership roles, with bloodlines and connections being completely disregarded (according to historical records, this meritocratic social structure can be traced back to the earliest days of civilisation).

History
It's believed that the first ancestors of the Veraxi appeared on their homeworld not long after the fall of the Shapers, sparing them from the chaos of the Voidfall and allowing them to develop without interference. For the vast majority of their early existence, the history of the Veraxi was largely uneventful, with kingdoms and nations rising and falling, and cultures changing and spreading across the ages like with any other sapient race, with the only real distinction being the comparatively rapid rate at which they've adapted to new knowledge and technologies. This would all change when they began exploring the far frontiers of their home, both terrestrial and astral.
While conducting an expedition to study the deep sea of their homeworld, a Veraxi research team stumbled across the wreckage of a Shaper research vessel, likely stationed on the planet to study its environment before it crashed in the ocean during the Voidfall. While the remains of the crew have long been eroded away by the elements and wildlife, and much of the information contained within its databanks have been curropted beyond recovery, the technology behind the vessels operation was still of great interest to the Veraxi, who quickly began organizing efforts to bring the craft up to the surface for further study. While the ship itself had been rendered inoperable by the ravages of time, the researchers were still able to gain considerable knowledge from studying the ships materials, its reactor, and its propulsion systems, all of which the Veraxi put to use to harness the energy from their worlds storms to increase their own energy production, and to rapidly advance their burgeoning space program. It wasn't long aftwerwards that the Veraxi would discover plentiful deposits of Novium on the nearby moon of Ilea, as well as the remains of a Relay at the edge of their solar system, both of which allowed them to further flourish within their home system, and catapult them into the wider galaxy.
