Novan Technology

Among all of the technological marvels of the galaxy, none were more wonderous than the technology of the the Novan precursor race. Constructed to work in tandem with their mastery over Psionics, Novan technology is responsible for every discovery that laid the groundwork for galactic civilisation, including FTL travel using the Starways, interstellar communications, and the ability to colonise other worlds. While the Novans themselves have long since disappeared from the galaxy, their technology still remains as highly sought after artifacts among the younger races.

Utility

During the Novans reign over the galaxy, their technology formed the basis of their interstellar communications, travel, and construction projects.

Manufacturing

Unfortunately, the knowledge of how to manufacture Novan technology was lost alongside its creators, meaning the only way to get more of it is to find it out in the wild.

Social Impact

Novan technology was pivotal in the Novans expansion throughout the galaxy, and the remains of this technology are what provided the foundation for modern intergalactic society, from interstellar travel to communications.

Access & Availability

Whatever calamity wiped out the Novans has also severely damaged their technology, with functioning Novan tech being extremely rare to come by. As such, any functional Novan technology recovered is immediately placed in government custody on delivery.

Complexity

Since Novan technology is powered and operated largely through Psionics, it's impossible for non-psionically gifted individuals to use. Even if a psionically gifted individual does try to use this technology, the apparent difference in psionic ability between the Novans and the other races of the galaxy, combined with the wear and tear of several millennia left abandoned, has resulted in this technology being extremely temperamental, often barely working or outright failing (sometimes catastrophically).

Discovery

While no one knows how or when Novan technology was first created, it is known that remnants of it were discovered by the younger races around the time they started exploring their home systems, often found in remote, previously inaccessible location on their homeworlds, or in orbit of/crash landed on other moons and planets in their system.
