Exodians

Among the various races that call Proxima home, Exodians are relative newcomers to the galaxy. Originally descended from the first Human colonists to arrive in Proxima, the Exodians have since quickly adapted to their new environment, and risen to become a key player in galactic affairs. With their ability to quickly adapt to a variety of environments and situations, as well as their eagerness to explore the wider galaxy and its mysteries, the Exodians have become one of the leading forces in colonising new worlds and charting the unexplored systems of Dark Space.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Exodians possess a standard humanoid body plan.

Ecology and Habitats

Exodians are capable of living in a wide variety of environments, though they generally prefer temperate climates.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Exodians can be found throughout Inhabited Space, both within their own territories and those of others, with the majority of them originating from their homeworld of "Horizon".

Average Intelligence

Exodians possess average intelligence, though this various by individual.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Exodian names borrow heavily from the naming traditions of Old Earth Humanity, although those who live among the various other Star Nations of Proxima have been known to borrow elements of their naming traditions as well.

Average Technological Level

When the Exodians first arrived in the Proxima Galaxy, they already had the technology to colonise and travel to other star systems, as well as implementing an experimental attempt at wormhole travel. Since their arrival, the Exodians have quickly adopted the technologies of neighbouring races, though they've become especially well known for their skill with technologies tied to colonisation and exploration.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Exodian culture places a strong emphasis on cooperation, diplomacy, and the expansion of knowledge. Having originated from outside the Proxima Galaxy, the original Exodians focused considerable effort on building good relations with the galaxies native inhabitants in order to ensure the success of their initial settlement, with the knowledge and aid they recieved from this being instrumental in them successfully establishing themselves in their new home system. This willingness to work alongside others persists into the modern day, with Exodians frequently collaborating with the various other inhabitants of the Proxima Galaxy on a number of endeavours.

Exodians are also well known for their fascination with exploration and discovery. This, unsurprisingly, stems from their origin as members of the greatest colonisation effort in human history, with many of those participating in the exodus having been motivated to join out of a sense of adventure. This desire to explore the unknown has remained strong within the Exodians well into the modern day, with many of them often pursuing careers in archeaostudies, or as Wayfinders.

History

Unlike the other inhabitants of the Proxima Galaxy, the history of the Exodians begins far outside of the galaxy. According to historical data recovered from the databanks of their colony ships, the ancestors of the Exodians were Humans from the Milky Way Galaxy, who had managed to develop to the point of settling most of their home galaxy. While the exact details surrounding the event aren't entirely known, sometime around the 27th century of their galaxy, Humanity set themselves to the ambitious task of harnessing wormhole travel, with the end goal of both improving interstellar travel and potentially developing inter-galactic travel. This ambition would eventially culminate in the "New Horizon" project, which would see Humanity explore the newly discovered wormhole in the frontiers of their space, as well as whatever worlds may be found on the other side.

At the height of this initiative, humanity assembled a massive fleet of colony ships, escorted by some military vessels, to venture through the wormhole and establish a foothold for further exploration on the other end, with the effort being assisted by a superstructure built to stabalize the wormhole entrance known as a "Gate" (which had been equated to a less refined version of the Relays used in the Proxima Galaxy). However, this voyage wasn't without incident, and while the fleet managed to reach the Proxima Galaxy through the wormhole, many of the ships suffered severe damage to several of their systems (with some of them having to be abandoned outright), and the wormhole itself appearing to have vanished, removing their one route back to their home galaxy. Stranded and with no hope of further aid from their home galaxy, the voyagers of the New Horizon fleet set to work trying to get to grips with the alien environment they've found themselves in, and find a place to settle and resupply. As luck would have it, the region where these Humans first entered into the galaxy happened to lie within the territory of the Halai, and while first contact between the two was initially tense, a partnership was soon struck between the two, with the Halai providing them with aid and a habitable world (Horizon) to settle. While their initial settlement within their new home came with its own difficulties (learning the languages and technologies of the galaxy, establishing relations with the wider galactic community, and establishing working living centers on their world being among them), these Exodians (named for the Exodia, the colony ship that lead their fateful expedition, and which now serves as their capital city) were eventually able to establish themselves as contributing members of the galactic community, and have eagerly dedicated themselves to exploring the galaxy they now call home.

Historical Figures

Admiral Elias Harkin: Captain of the colony ship Exodia, and leader of the New Horizon expedition. As the first leader of the Exodians, Elias Harkin played a pivotal role in establishing diplomatic relations with the various races of Proxima, as well as establishing the Exodians as a contributing member of the greater galactic community, and he remains a celebrated figure within Exodian culture to the modern day.

Common Myths and Legends

Old Earth: Being descendants of Humans from the Milky Way Galaxy, Old Earth naturally features heavily in the mythology of the Exodians. As much of the data relating to the history of Old Earth (as well as interstellar humanity) was lost during the crossing into the Proxima Galaxy, many facts about their ancestral homeworld remain shrouded in myth for the Exodians, with the underlying reasons for the New Horizon initiative in particular being a source of great speculation, ranging from the benign (a simple desire to explore the wider universe) to the sinister (an attempt to escape a coming disaster of cosmic scale). The inability to return to their galaxy of origin has only further strengthened these mysteries, and many aren't even sure if Human civilisation within the Milky Way still exists, though possibility of one day returning to their old home remains a subject of fascination among them nonetheless.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Exodians seek to maintain good relations with the various races of Proxima, and frequently colaborate with them on a number of scientific and exploration endeavors. In particular, the Exodians have close ties to the Halai, who aided them greatly when they first arrived in Proxima.
