Togruta

Home / Races of the Galaxy / Togruta
The crash had been rough, but Lanter's piloting managed to save most the ship. It had been hours since repairs had been started when Shar Leko's voice came from the back. "Do you want the bad news, or the really bad news?" she asked. "How about the bad news with a tinge of optimism?" I quipped back.   "Well warp drive is offline, we're leaking coolant, and I'll have to realign and perform a cold start on the plasma manifolds. Basically, we aren't going anywhere soon."   "Sounds terribly down beat."   "A mystic and an engineer. Is there anything you can't do?" Lanter asked.   With a smirk as she dove back into the access hatch, "Public speaking. I always hated it."

Togruta are a people with strong community bonds and they have ancient ties and beliefs in mystical forces. The Togruta homeworld, Xeirus, is that of wide plains and various wildlife both docile and dangerous. In ancient times the Togruta gathered in villages with societal structures heavily based on each member of the community pulling their fair share. This has had a lingering affect of the high importance many Togruta place on family and community as well as hard work. Many are great orators, storytellers, and scientists while others prefer to study the mystic traditions of their homeworld as well as others.

Perceptive and Agile

The Togruta are very much like humans in many respects in form, weight, and height. They are characterized by their colorful skin tones, large montrals and head tails, and white facial pigments. A Togruta's montrals allowed them to sense the movement of objects around them through echolocation and could reach up to 60 feet. Generally the lekku (or head tails) of males are shorter than the females.   Togruta skin tones have been seen in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and grey. Their heads bear two white colored montrals, with three, and on rare occasions, four head-tails, with dark stripes running across the montrals and lekku. The Togruta ability to sense the proximity and movement of physical objects around comes by means of their hollow montrals, which detected space ultrasonically. Young Togrutas' montrals and posterior head-tail did not fully grow until adolescence, when their montrals became curved and their third head-tail grew to the length of their two main head-tails.

Blend of Technology and Traditional Lifestyles

Many Togruta colonies are established on planets similar to thier homeworld, with large open plains for agriculture and their cities tend to rely much less on technology and are still built on the cultural traditions of community and use many of the old ways of living. There is not due to animosity towards technology, and there are still practical technologies adopted by the Togruta. Many still find the traditional methods comfortable and give a better sense of connection to the land.   Other Togruta strike off into the universe joining communities of their own for adventure, the pursuit of knowledge, and even profit. Whether at home our out in space, Togruta generally like to be in groups for company and safety. There are Togruta somewhere in all 4 major powers of the Alpha Quadrant.

A History of Exile

Historically, many Togrutan colonies and worlds have been attacked and raided. Many Togruta where seens as refugees and exiles for many centuries. Only in recent history have they been able to get back on their feet and spread across several systems. The Togruta have contributed countless advancements in both mystic arts and scientific achievments. There are pockets of those who still think of the Togruta as refugees and vagabonds, but many of the societies across the galaxy now recognize how great their contributions are and welcome them into their space.
