Murae

"Red Alert! It's an ambush! Prepare all turbo lasers and target those Imperial Fighters."   The Admiral drifted through the air to the command station floating in the center of the open air bridge. The screens came to life and showed every arc of the ship and the imperial fighters off to the port side. 20 Imperial fighter craft began to swarm the Murean vessel.   "Keep the secondary shield generators cycling. Dellitar, focus fire on targets Alpha, Beta, and Gamma."   The admiral glided down to me as 3 of the fighter craft were eliminated.   "Don't worry ambassador, we are well equipped for these raids. As I am sure you have been briefed, our vessels have several redundant shield systems and the highest quality hull armor in the Republic."   He then made his way to each station as if he was swimming through the air, checking on each system and encouraging the crew until each fighter was dispatched and the were back on their way again.
- Ambassador Ghemon's Account of the Imperial Raid at Far Point Station
On the water world of Ugallan II, the Murae (mew-ray) hold dominion of the seas. With their advanced underwater cities, the Murae led great scientific initiatives and where one of the first species in their region of space to be warp capable. With long held beliefs to uphold peace and cooporation, the Murae were some of the major proponents of and first members of the Republic.   The Ugallan System has one of the most advanced defense nets in the quadrant. The Murean (Mew-ree-an) Navy has some of the largest and most reliable ships in the Republic, though they tend to focus on capital and support ships over small fighters. As a result of their natural environment, the Murae find it easiest to "swim" through their ships in a modified zero-gravity environment. Their bridges are open and spacious with many monitors to give a radial perspecitve of the ship's surroundings. For non-mureans, the ship can either have a normal gravity environment or personal gravity fields for specific passengers / crew are given allowing creatures to act as if they have a flying speed equal to their walking speed in large rooms or walk as if in a normal gravity.

Underwater Grace and Ferocity

Mureans in their native form have elongated bodies like eels with fins along their bodies and a fish tail for agile movement and quick turns. They have an upper body similar to most humanoids though with a more shark like head. Occasionally some even have heads similar to draconians. Mureans are swift hunters in their native environment and ferocious in a fight. Don't let their appearance fool you though, community and cooperation have long been central pillars of Murean Society.   When on land, Mureans typically stand around 5ft tall and move the lower portion of the body in a manner similar to slithering like snakes. Their land speed is generally slower than native land creatures and they need to stay hydrated, but they can generally stay out of water indefinitely, though they don't particularly enjoy it.

Stellar Explorers and Ship Builders

Murean society respects both the martial and intellectual pursuits. The scientific and cultural advancements of the Murae have pushed progress throughout the Republic. The Murae were one of the first civilizations in the Republic to achieve warp.   Their starships often are built with redundant shield arrays allowing for faster shield recharge, as well as reinforced hull plating making the Murae fleet one of the most difficult to destroy or incapacitate. The Murae tend to design their own ships and keep those designs close to their chest, though they have collaborated with other civilizations and even factions like the Eldari for warp design and other similar scientific endeavors.

Aquatic Beauty

Though no one knows for sure at what point it began in Murean history, a few of the Murae have sought ways of differentiating themselves in a pursuit to gain favor or status. Mostly now through scientific means, though historically and even now some magical means, some Murae have sought to resequence their genetics to alter their appearance. This has led to more refined and smoother appearances, and even color variations. These bright colors are not very suitable for hunting and this behavior tends to be found in the upper eschillons of Murean society. These changes are purely cosmetic and offer no benefits to any who undergo such proceedures, and the changes are passed down biologically.
