The Forgery Mountains

    Title of the oldest mountain range in the realm of Prototokos belongs to the Forgery Mountains. After the first full cycle of morning to night, arose the mighty Forgery Mountains. Said to have the deepest cavern system and the mightiest of deposits of minerals and valuable gems, The Forgery Mountains lore grows as more substances are pulled from within it's grasps. But of all the minerals found within the depths of the mountains, nothing has been more precious than that of Onyxite. A shiney, black, mirror like substance, onyxite is sought after by smiths of all kinds.

During the infancy years of Prototokos, known as the Age of Inception, the vast mountain range was nameless and innocent to discovery. As the surface dwelling races began to populate the area do to its majestic views and wealth in vegetation, others took to the deep caverns and tunnels the mountains kept hidden. This lead to dwarven mining and civilizations scattered below the crust of the mountains. It was not long before the first ore of onyxite was discovered below what is now known as Mount Targon. Of all the valuable and rich minerals that would soon be unearthed, nothing was better for smithing than that of onxyite. Word spread quickly of this perfect ingredient for any who plan to forge, that the once virgin grounds of the area became densely populated by miners and smiths looking to strike their anvil on their first bit of onyxite.
The profound search for the valuable mineral lasted for well over 400 years before it became too hard for surface dwelling peoples to mine the area. This lead to the dwarven kingdoms below being contracted and paid to dig up any ores they could in exchange for other forms of wealth from the above ground smiths. The dwarven kingdom known as The Bareknuckles benefited the most during this time, amassing large hordes of wealth and popularity. And soon they became known as the best miners west of the Thunder River. Although it was not long after, that the dwarves claimed the mountains bared no more ores of the valuable black substance. This statement is unknown to be completely true, as many have still found bits of onyxite up and down the vast mountainous region.
In any regard, the many years of mining and the rush to populate this area was epic at its time. The night sky around the basins of each peak would glow dimly during this era. As forge after forge was fired up, kiln after kiln boiled and anvil upon anvil rang. And the stories grew from coast to coast of this region, which brought this geographic site to be named The Forgery Mountains.

Geography

A vast mountainous area, full of caves, crevasses and sturdy landscapes. The Forgery Mountains provides all types of environments. From lush forested areas, to raging waterfalls and snowcapped peaks. Valley after valley bares some of the purest mountain run off that could ever be found, along with deep natural tunnels and caves for the nocturnal beasts of the realm. The Forgery Mountains are majestic and alive, full of all the natural beauties that any retiring adventurer would enjoy.

Ecosystem

All creatures and walks of life could exist in the many different climate zones and areas of the Forgery Mountains. Temperatures in the area vary as each season passes, but some remain cold or damp all year around depending on where it is you find yourself. For example, the most southern mountain of Mulsons Lookout has a steady weather environment of rain and 80 degrees. While Mount Sidiro never sees temperatures above -5 degrees, and remains snow covered year round. These types of extreme climate zones birth many forms of life and both takes and gives to any who choose to live along this range.

The long list of natural resources grows as each decade passes....but just to list a few of the most sought after are as follows:
Rare Vegetation: Wizards Weed, Convallaria Lilly, Chamomile and Fennel Root
Precious Metals: Gold, Silver, Copper, Platinum, and Iron
Gems/Jewels: Ruby, Jade, Garnet, Amethyst, Diamond and Pearl

Tourism

As it is with The Forgery Mountains, recently a new precious rare gem has been discovered by the Kingdom of the Bareknuckles. This newly found substance named Bareknium was discovered in the year 496 T.S. while mining the southern ridges. This new mineral could quite possibly cause a resurge of smiths and miners to the area.
