Culture

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Meadowians are a highly religious people although their priesthood is rather untraditional. While it is not unheard of for actual priests to exist over an area it is a common custom for anyone to know the Aventine who is their patron and be a teacher of them. Every blacksmith is a taught to know and protect the sacred rites of Clement, all judges and champions are to know the word of Miche, and so on. Depending on the spirit they are worshiping though this can often lead to a singular figure being named the true priest,

Funerary and Memorial customs

Said to have been first taught to them by one of their Aventine Anton. Funerals will always be conducted at night, beginning the morning in truth. The Meadows believe that when a person dies they are rejoining the great cycle of life and death, their soul rests with the Aventine and that this is a cause to celebrate while mourning the loss on those that they love until they meet again.   In the morning before the sun has risen, the family will gather over the body and give their blessings and say their first goodbyes of the day. As the sun rises they will, with a priest of Anton, clean the body and then bath themselves, washing away the sorrows of the moment. As the morning draws into the afternoon friends and family alike gather and share memories and funny stories about the deceased, honoring them. It is a time of feasting, song, and celebration that can take up entire villages.   As the sun is setting they family and friends will take the body to the town's shrine of the departed's gods. The body wrapped in flowers and surrounded by trinkets and charms that are gifted to them. The final method of burial involves placed upon a great pyre, singing, and dancing to honor their ancestor and letting their ashes to be scattered across the fields.

Common Taboos

Living in a land of little wood and metal they have come to the belief that their craft must have a quality to make up for its quantity. For this reason, they have developed numerous secrets to their trades, taught to them by the Aventine so they claim. To share any of these with those who are not born of the meadows is a crime of the highest order, Slyvian Steal in particular.

Common Myths and Legends

In contradiction to most cultures, it is commonly believed that if one sees a will-o-whisp that they are meant to follow them. For they lead a person to their fate.
