Belonging to no other known pantheon, Harlequin and their brother Pierrot are the most esoteric out of an already esoteric pantheon. Harlequin appears as a man whose features are hidden behind a gaudily colored outfit, made from bright pigments and brilliant golden accents, with their face hidden behind a laughing mask of pure gold.
Harlequin stays in a state of constant slow motions of elation and jubilation, as they are in no rush to share the joys of death. “A world without sadness” they’ll whisper into a glass of wine offered to the recently deceased. Harlequin favors the dead who have lived life filled with romance, levity, and comedy.
The two aspects of spirit are said to manifest in a space beyond time within the moment someone who has lived a life they deem “interesting” dies, whichever brother favored them more will appear closer to the recently deceased head. The two will argue over which one should take the deceased’s soul, but the decision of who they go with is in the hands of the dead, not the deity. If you choose Harlequin to take you, you’ll be whisked to their personal afterlife. Your story will live on and be passed down as a comedy. Thousands, or maybe even millions of people will look to it for levity and laughter to brighten their day.
