Basics: Astronomy

The Apex Solar system

Once, half the galaxy had been efficiently and violently conquered by the Old Empire. It had been honed and shaped into a brutally effective engine of war. Then came the Ascension, and the Old Empire was shaken apart from its very core. A millennia has passed, and the descendants of the Ascension now look again to the stars and dream of seeing beyond the obscuring veil placed by the Wings of the Sky, to what might lay beyond.

Solpheus, the Shattered Homeworld

Solpheus is the home world of the setting, and sits squarely in The Architect’s habitable zone. It’s encircled by a series of concentric mechanical rings that serve to regulate the planet’s parameters and protect it from outsider influence.   The Wings of the Sky: Concentric planetary rings that surround Solpheus. They are man-made megastructures and serve to finely control several parameters within and around Solpheus. They sustained critical damage during the Ascension, though they remain operable. They are managed solely by S.K.Y., a reclusive and relatively unknown Neo-Dragoon.   These rings also protect the planet from outside influence by preventing travel into or out of the planet, strictly regulating or outright disabling dimensional travel, and making it completely impossible to interact with or even detect from the outside. The most widely accepted theory for this is that The Architect wishes to protect the planet as it recovers from the Ascension, and does not want interlopers to take advantage of the world’s weakened state. This has come to be known as "The Veil"   Further details can be found in the Solpheus article.

Beyond the Veil

It is unknown what the current state of the solar system currently is, since attempts to observe beyond The Veil are being effectively blocked or obfuscated, always in unpredictable ways. In spite of this, the people are determined to find a practical solution to their situation.   [More to come as the rest of the solar system is built. Thank you for your patience!]

The Architect, Ascendant Star:

The body and soul of the True God, the Architect. So immense was his power that he ejected himself into space in order to prevent the total destruction of Solpheus, though the planet was not unscathed in the process.   The Architect now serves as the solar system’s new star, having consumed and replaced the original star in an effort to stabilize his new material form.

Stats: Sentient Star

  • Class G star, Yellow
  • Solar mass: 1.2
  • Luminosity: 2.07
  • Diameter: 1.14
  • Surface temperature: 1.10
  • Habitable zone: 1.37 - 1.97

The Architect’s primary physical form is that of the literal sun. He exhibits most of the classic attributes of true godhood, although transformed into a more suitable mortal form - that of a star.   Stars are celestial bodies that can still die, and this admittedly mundane fact nonetheless allows The Architect to contain his power as a God while manifesting Himself within the realm of Mortals. According to the Church of Solarism, this allows him to remain closest to the Mortals, make Himself available, and to allows him to remember life as a mere man.   Even so, it is clear that His will and consciousness far exceeds ordinary understanding, and is, for all intents and purposes, unknowable.
