Solpheus, the Shattered Homeworld

Remnants and vestiges of the Old Empire's legacy remains on the planet even now, and the fate of the Empire's galactic horde remains a mystery to us. What were once carefully curated and efficiently maintained continents are now blasted hellscapes, with the exception of the Barrier Regions and locations furthest away from the Crater of Ascension.   The world’s surface was subjected to cataclysmic shockwaves, which spurred storms that lasted almost a century. The air, land and sea were reshaped and poisoned from the incredibly destructive force of the Ascension, and the fallout that lingers long after its end clings to the shell of our planet.   Normally, this would have ended life on the planet, but The Architect had a plan! Before the eruption of his Mortal form, The Architect was able to warn his most powerful Neo-Dragoons and provide them just enough time to erect gigantic barriers to preserve what life they could.   These barriers would save whole regions of the planet, creating distinct biomes in the process, and while the Ascension broke against their barriers and the bulk of its destruction was mitigated, not everything was perfectly preserved. Infrastructure shook apart as earthquakes shattered the world, and filtered air and water flooded past entry points into places not meant to hold them, allowing some leakage of fallout to enter.   Nevertheless, life was preserved, and recovery began.   Of course, a cataclysm that profound did not abate by natural means, and all the Dragoon Gods have told us is that it was The Architect Himself, now a True God, who used his newfound might to calm the storms and reign in the poison much faster than otherwise possible. Even so, to us Mortals, the world remains perilous, and healing will take far more time, although it is a shared impetus that we bend ourselves towards the effort of reclaiming the world for ourselves in order to shorten the process.

Geography

Solpheus is the planet upon which the bulk of Project Mystica will be built. Similar to Earth in size and make-up, it once was the Home World for the old Neo-Dragoon Empire, which had spread to encompass nearly half its galaxy. In the advent of the Ascension, the planet is nearly unrecognizable when compared to the its relatively recent past, at the height of the Old Empire's glory.   There are now three super continents on Solpheus, which is the result of landmasses and tectonic plates being smashed together during the aftermath of the Ascension, and two major oceans breaking up the median zones along the equator, with a smaller third ocean filling the southern hemisphere.   Biomes and ecosystems vary wildly, due largely to the effects of the gigantic Great Barriers. Life within the Barriers was preserved relatively well, considering the cataclysm they resisted. Despite bearing the brunt of the Ascension shockwaves and fallout, the Barriers could not stop every effect from permeating through the walls. Trace amounts of Corruption, radioactivity, magical fallout, and secondary earthquakes ravaged the land within, which destroyed infrastructure and leveled whole cities and superstructures.   There are a handful of much smaller Barrier regions that were preserved by less powerful Neo-Dragoons, who still had the power to protect smaller yet strategically valuable territories. I will summarize the three major Great Barrier regions below:   [These regions are still using placeholder names. Region details are not yet finalized, and will need a few revisions. Certain geographic details, such as climate, major oceanic currents and prevailing winds are not yet determined.]

Features

  • Earth-like, no moon. Instead, a series of concentric rings, known “The Wings of the Sky” regulate most parameters within the planet, such as climate, wind patterns and tidal fluctuations, among innumerable others.

  • Large amounts of land are uninhabitable, due to Corruption, which is the result of fallout from the Ascension.

  • Oceans are largely unaffected, due to constant cycling of currents and the effects of Barriers filtering the waters they touch. Most Corruption is washed away and sunk to the sea floors, though standing water can still carry Corruption.
  • Three gigantic barriers stand to this day where they were first raised by the Dragoon Gods of those regions. They are weakening over time, yet they still perform largely as they once did. Life was preserved here, and as people began to fight back the Corruption, ecosystems are starting to emerge outside of the barriers.

  • There are still 4 primary seasons. The Wings compensate for the damaged cycle by brute-forcing a mostly consistent seasonal change.

  • There are 365 days in a year, 12 months in a year, 4 weeks in a month, 7 days a week, with a leap year at every 4th year to account for axial variation. The calendar year is marked as “AA”, for After Ascension, according to most calendars.

  • Ruins of the Old Empire can be found anywhere on the planet, and are the primary resource for surviving life to exploit. Animals and plant life are also rapidly evolving to resist and survive within the Corruption, though it is unclear to what degree this entails.

  • Unique lifeforms have sprung up from the Ascension, creating new ecosystems that prove both hostile and beneficial to surviving life in a variety of ways.

Great Barriers

The Pantheon, as well as a few less powerful Neo-Dragoons, are solely responsible for the survival of a majority of the life present on the planet, thanks to the massive barriers they raised just before the Ascension. The barriers share a number of similar traits, though their efficacy and exact limitations vary depending on who raised them. Here are the most well-known attributes they generally share:
  • Energy Conversion: Whenever a barrier encounters damage or other harmful effects, it is able to absorb a portion of the energy transferred into it and convert into "Focus" energy to use in self-repairs and other functions.

  • Ablative layers: The Barriers, large and small, all maintain structures that allow for strength and flexibility by allowing layers to break away and reform when they take enough damage, allowing them to distribute pressure and force flexibly and leveraging the structure as a whole in order to resist nearly any type of of trauma.

  • Filtration system: The Dragoon Gods were able to imbue their barriers with a lifesaving system that was able to filtrate and clean air and water that was allowed to pass through their boundary. The barriers exhibit dynamic and malleable surfaces, which facilitate the collection of water effectively, though the process is not fully understood.

  • Hostility detection: The barriers allow the Neo-Dragoons who raised them to detect the presence of threats within their domain, although the specifics surrounding them are dependent on the Neo-Dragoon's own cognition and definitions. It is speculated that this function is capable of much more, as there are isolated cases where hostiles were not only detected, but neutralized long before their presence became public knowledge within their respective regions.

  • Climate control: The barriers are capable of managing localized weather patterns, which was most useful during the early aftermath of the Ascension. This function managed to calm the air and force that entered the protected zone down to survivable magnitudes. It also appears that the barriers are able to affect weather independently of the Wings' influence, as if it were able to override otherwise global settings. Among all of the functions a barrier has, this one is perhaps the most expensive to sustain.

  • Access control: This function is straightforward - the barrier actively identifies creatures that attempt to pass through them and are dependent on the priorities of the Neo-Dragoon who sustains it. It does not seem to be able to prevent certain kinds of travel, however, and likely rely on the Wings of the Sky to reinforce certain limitations within the world.
