Wymbras Tone

An orb of brass and green crystal, the Wymbras Tone is an age-old artifact single-handedly holding the dragons at bay. As long as it is active and attuned to dragonkind, all dragon eggs are inert and all adult dragons are in deep slumber.

History

Created by the Runeheim Empire to end the war on dragons, it required the complete slaying of all one-eyed newts which had been endemic to the region. This extinction was then harvested, as well as a captured Grynth's Anam (eye-stones) sacrificed, to form the physical object that would become the Wymbras. The leader of the dragons, a great red beast named Tonevoldrath, was slain and pierced with a bezel-spear. The blood was let drip onto the stone which completed the attunement and began the process of binding all dragons. In the early days it had a short range, and thus the armies of Runeheim still had to hunt down each dragon and fell it as it weakened, but soon the genocide was complete and the few dragons that remained fell into hibernation hidden away from all sight.   Many have tried to find the object since, some for nobler reasons than others, but none have succeeded. It is postulated that it remains deep in the dungeons what used to be the capital of Runeheim, still guarded by magical wards and physical traps, and now also protected by fierce winds and cold. Philosophers have argued endlessly for as long as the object existed about the moral implications of such an object and whether it is completely reprehensible or an unfortunate necessity. All agree that the return of dragons would be something to fear, but is it within the right of the humans to decide? And what if it becomes necessary to attune the object to another species? What if some other peoples turn it on the humans themselves?
