Sculptor

In the golden sands of the Gismari Desert, any Eleb leader is required to be at least a novice at sculpting, and the great Shaman-Pharaoh is trained in it from childhood till death, so much so that few in any land could match their skills when they are in their twilight years.

History

The discovery of the Brass Giant (among other smaller sculptures) by the Truin brothers in the Pillars region of the desert called into question just how long sculpting has been so revered in the region. As the brothers postulated and most common folk assume, the Brass Giant was probably created by an ancient Shafa as their crowning achievement at the end of a long life. Many potsherds and nearly-faded murals depict a particular sculptor at work, day and night.   Indeed, sculptors have numbered amongst the elite in the desert for time immemorial, and even common folk strive to learn the simplest techniques for prestige among peers or at worst purchase their way in by filling their homes with expensive pieces bought in the markets. The Shafa themselves all spend the majority of their years in rule working on a masterpiece, and when finished (which is not often the case due to perfectionism or just an untimely death) they number among the most marvellous sights in the palace. A large gallery called the Hall of the Ancestors dedicated to all these sculptures can be found in the palace, though some of the smaller ones are scattered among corridors and other rooms.   For ages thesesculptures was done with sandstone, which is why most ancient ones are lost to time, but when the region grew in influence it began to import marble and other strong stones for its usage, and the great Shafa Abbad was the one to pioneer brass sculpting which is what most people use this day, though the Brass Giant proved that this was in fact a rediscovery!
