Posican

Posicans are the most common species on the planet. Named for Posica, their modern point of origin, they've come to settle all across the world. While they can differ culturally (usually based on the sector of Posica they hail from), the stereotypical Posican is of refined speech, tall stature, confident personality and a spot of egotism.

Basics

Appearance

Posicans look, for lack of a better term, "average". They're most comparable to humans of the three major races of the Belari Ocean. Average heights, weights, proportions, etc. Their skin ranges in complexion from light to dark, typically based on where in Posica they hail from (though only biologically, and not exclusively). Hair grows only in browns, never in blondes, reds or other spectrums for unknown reasons.

Fashion

Depending on the sector a Posican calls home, they'll usually fashion themselves based on the culture that's permeated the area. Tesidians often dress very sleek and attractively, showing off their wealth and sophistication. Evitti (on the Eastern shore) people dress light, and don't bother with style or flair. The Sacrese (on the South-Western coast) have an affinity for elaborate and "flowing" design, which comes off in their clothing as much as their architecture, art and general culture besides. Gryans (of the central-Western sector) are a blue-collar people, and are often seen in worn or heavy clothing with little focus on beauty otherwise. TONIDANS LATER

Personality

Stereotypical Posican attitude is skewed by Tesidian culture. They're ego-centric, self-appraising and condescending by stigma. However, this is mostly attributed to the upper-class of Tesid (though not exclusively). Most Posicans on the Belari ocean are from Evitt, the coastal sector, and very rarely fit that oft-believed stereotype. However, they're not exactly the opposite. Evitti Posicans are usually pinned as proud, blue-collar, hard-working citizens with a kind smile but a rough edge. Of course, this isn't true of every Posican on the Belari Ocean, but it's a stigma that many have had to navigate around.

History

Early Days

Little is known of the origin of Posicans. As far back as historians, archaeologists and geologists can determine, the species had always occupied the land mass now known as Posica. While they may not have been as refined and sophisticated as they are now, it seems that proto-Posicans are remarkably similar to their modern counterparts. In the early histories, Posicans formed villages and towns across the shores of their nation, which turned into mighty city-states. Very few of these city-states exist today, as they tended to be raided or abandoned by others. As time and technology advanced, city-states became nations, and soon Posica became its own country.

The Sector Initiative

Eventually, the center was unable to hold. Posica had grown too large a nation to control, so it was divided in a plan known as the Sector Initiative. After a while, these sectors became powerful enough to be considered nations in their own right, and tensions between them soon flared into a massive civil war. Note: Please see Posica's history for a more detailed account of the Sector Initiative and the Posican Civil War.

Post-War

The end of the war was met with a new age of cooperation and exploration, which coincided with a tech boom that flourished for decades and decades. Solar Engineering, in particular, which was discovered by Posican scientists in the western region, formed the core of what would become modern life. Over the next hundred years, Posica would see consumer-grade airships, food replication, entertainment, social connection, and energy-based military advancement.   It wasn't entirely a utopia, however. While nobody was starving, high-tech living was still a luxury that less than half of Posica's population could experience. Work was sparse, with robots doing all the work. Corporations would employ people for the sake of it, giving them meaningless jobs just to get the economy going. The heart and soul of Posican society was slowly being sucked out. And unfortunately, this is still a problem today.

Belarian Fever

While the jingoistic and devoted among them stay confident, it was no secret that the typical Posican was a husk of what they could have been. As time went on, however, tales of the exotic Belari Ocean began to swirl around the continent. The promise of an exciting life with real drive and real danger foolishly attracted thousands of young men and women to a life that, more often than not, ended up far worse than the life they lived before or otherwise. But it gave Posicans something to care about, and for many of them, that was better than any life they'd have had back home.

Now...

Posicans have been on the Belari Ocean for decades now. Original migratees are all very old, or dead. Most Belarian Posicans have never seen their home. And many of them are struggling to get by. Even on a big city island, like Sytorga, it's difficult to thrive on the Ocean.
