Nam Todihr

Nam Todihr, the marvel of the Ancient Dwarves, remains a bustling metropolis even after countless centuries. Nestled deep within the heart of the towering mountains named the Adamantine Peaks, this colossal underground city stands as a testament to the grandeur and engineering prowess of its creators. Its name, in the ancient Dwarven tongue, translates to "City of Stone and Fire," paying homage to the volcanic activity that lies beneath its very foundations. With a staggering population of 8-9 million inhabitants, Nam Todihr is the largest and most prosperous of all the Stone Dwarven cities, a beacon of strength, unity, and ingenuity that continues to thrive.

Nam Todihr is strategically nestled in the heart of Vrigora's Bolkuldir region, boasting remarkable significance owing to its prime location just south of the continental bridge that links Vrigora to Savona. However, the true prominence of this city emanates from housing the Stone Dwarven Governmental Administration (SDGA) within the prestigious Corporate Council Building.

Operating as an autonomous enclave, Nam Todihr takes pride in its impartial stance, remaining detached from any allegiance to external organizations. This neutrality shines through in the city's involvement in corporate debates, as it refrains from taking sides until a pivotal, sway-vote situation arises.

One of Nam Todihr's key strengths lies in its astute utilization of the continental bridge network, masterfully controlling trade through the adept management of the Dwarven Trade Administration (DTA). By skillfully employing the DTA, the city effectively manipulates trade prices, favoring the interests of the SDGA.

The Culture of Nam Todihr:

Unlike many under the Organisation's control, the citizens of Nam Todihr are not governed by the Caste system and can instead do whatever jobs they like within reason, this does, however, mean that getting employment is much more complicated due to the increased experience required as with most jobs you must have worked at least 2 years in a traineeship before getting the actual job or study for 2-3 years at Ebokniams, one of the most prominent universities in all of Privan and it is not just locked to Stone Dwarves but any race that wishes to learn and excel in a field.

The city has the largest market centre in all of Vrigora, where goods vary from the exotic spices of Ladia, livestock produced in Vrigora, raw materials from Savona and weaponry from the frozen north of Druijora, this has led the city to have the highest population in Vrigora, due to many migrating from other continents and Stone Dwarves of organisations finally making their way to citizenship.

A walk through Nam Todihr's market centre is experienced by all 3 senses, the smell of all the different spices, meat, vegetables and exotic foods being prepared by vendors to sell to hungry customers and a huge bustling crowd waiting to buy goods from vendors, these said vendors shouting over the crowd about a sale they have on right now saying "Buy 2 for the price of one". The market centre is one of competition, each vendor competing to sell their goods and undercutting each other at any moment they can, to own a stall in Nam Todihr, you need to be ruthless, otherwise, you will sink under the rest.

As the Stone Dwarves are very traditional, once a long day of work is completed usually around 6-7 pm vendors can usually be found in the many local taverns the biggest one is named Smednir's Rest, many a weary traveller stops by here to recuperate before carrying on their long journey across Vrigora or to Savona, the tavern's owner Jennia Fongurk is a follower of Smednir to the dismay of many Stone Dwarves, but she holds no resentment as she holds up the ideals of her once pure deity, providing a safe place for many to rest. She doesn't charge people for rooms, only food, drink and the many amenities she offers.

The Guards of Nam Todihr:

Because of the Great Schism, the Stone Dwarves destain the idea of a military, so they instead have Guards, these mostly consist of a militia named the Ironwall Guardians, the Ironwall Guardians are entirely composed of volunteers who come from various professions within the Stone Dwarven community. These selfless individuals step forward to serve as guardians of their town, driven by a deep sense of loyalty and responsibility to their kin and their home.

The Stone Dwarven art of forging extends to the weaponry of the Ironwall Guardians. They wield an impressive array of handcrafted weapons, including warhammers, battle axes, crossbows, and finely crafted throwing axes. Every weapon is expertly balanced and designed for maximum efficiency in close-quarters combat, making the Ironwall Guardians formidable protectors of their town.

The Ironwall Guardians undergo rigorous training in combat and defence strategies. They learn to work as a cohesive unit, utilizing the terrain and their robust defences to their advantage. Through gruelling training sessions and challenging drills, these Stone Dwarves develop their innate resilience and determination, traits that make them formidable defenders of their homeland.

The Ironwall Guardians operate under a hierarchical structure, led by a seasoned veteran and member of the Council of Stonewardens known as the "Stone Sentinel." The Stone Sentinel oversees several Captains, each responsible for a specific sector of the town's defence. Under the command of the Captains are groups of Guardians who patrol and safeguard their respective areas.

The Leadership of Nam Todihr:

The Stone Dwarven Governmental Administration governs Nam Todihr with a firm yet fair hand. Comprised of seasoned and respected Stone Dwarven leaders, the Council of Stonewardens forms the core of the city's governance. They oversee various aspects of city life, from trade agreements to social welfare. The government's loyalty lies solely with the city and its inhabitants, ensuring the prosperity and protection of their beloved home above all else.

Membership in the Council of Stonewardens is not hereditary but earned through merit and public service. Dwarves who have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and dedication to the well-being of Nam Todihr are nominated by their peers and undergo a thorough vetting process. Once appointed, the Stonewardens serve for a fixed term, typically spanning several decades, during which they remain dedicated solely to their governmental duties and refrain from any other personal pursuits.

The Council of Stonewardens operates on a consensus-based decision-making model. Major decisions require the agreement of the majority of Stonewardens. This ensures that no individual or faction dominates the decision-making process and encourages a balanced and pragmatic approach to governance. Each Stonewarden is assigned specific areas of responsibility based on their expertise and skills. For example, one may oversee trade relations with neighbouring realms, while another might be responsible for overseeing the city's defences and military affairs and gain a special title depending on their job. Some Stonewardens may focus on infrastructure and public projects, while others handle matters related to the temples and religious practices.

The Council of Stonewardens is also responsible for maintaining law and order within the city. A dedicated group of Stone Dwarven judges, known as the Hammercourt, assists the council in upholding and interpreting the city's laws. They conduct trials and deliver judgments, ensuring justice prevails and fostering a sense of security and fairness among the population.

The Council of Stonewardens maintains a strong connection with the citizens of Nam Todihr. They hold regular open assemblies where the populace can express their concerns, propose ideas, and offer feedback. This accessibility fosters a sense of community and ensures that the government remains accountable to its people.

When a Stonewarden's term comes to an end due to retirement, illness, or other reasons, a new member is carefully selected to take their place. This process guarantees a smooth transition of power and ensures the preservation of the government's legacy and the continuity of Nam Todihr's prosperity.
