Ground Central Station is a coffee shop and used bookstore located just a couple of blocks off the campus of Columbia University, New York. It is a popular location for university students, faculty and support staff to get their coffee, tea and pastry in the morning and light meals and snacks the rest of the day. The cafe also has a large selection of other beverages from soft drinks and iced teas (all day) to craft beers and wines (after noon). Ground Central Station prides itself on roasting and flavoring their own coffee beans, sourcing them from Fair Trade and organic suppliers and grinding them just before brewing. Their teas are likewise sourced and baked goods, meats and fruits and vegetables are brought in from local bakeries and farms whenever possible.
The shop also expanded some years ago to add a used bookstore with a large, comfortable lounge are for reading or studying. Patrons can also use meeting rooms for study groups or other group activities.
Ground Central Station is family owned and operated with no franchises. The staff is friendly and attentive, knowing most of their regulars by name.
Hours of operation are 6:00 AM to midnight, seven days a week. Closed on major holidays.
