Poison

There are different types of Poison, you can see them in the table below.
If you get poisoned, you must roll Vigor v/s the Poison Intensity. If no Intensity is provided, consider the ones in the table below.
Results of the Vigor roll:
  • Critical Failure: Poison Effects are somehow doubled (damage or speed, etc.).
  • Failure: Poison effects as described in the table below.
  • Partial Success: Poison effects are somehow halved (damage or speed, etc.)
  • Success: You feel like shit, headache and nausea, you are Distracted, it will last as long as the poison. However, it causes no Fatigue nor Wounds.
  • At least 1 Raise: Nothing happens to you. Perhaps the snake's fangs were not able to pierce all your layers of scar tissue, you tough motherfucker.

Types of Poison

The effects below take place when the resist poison roll is failed.
If the victim is incapacitated due to fatigue, effects such as stunned and knockout don't take place.
Wounds over time take place regardless of state (Stunned, knockout, incapacitated, etc.).

Poison TypeTypical IntensityFatigue LevelsEffect
Mild41D4/2None
Paralyzing51D4Victim is Stunned for 2D6 minutes.
Knockout61D6Victim is Knocked out for 2D6 hours.
Lethal72D4Victim is Stunned, and takes 1 wound level per round (internal damage), until the victim dies

Treatment:

To cure poisons, you need to suck the poison out of the wound and spit it out.
This is reasonable when some kind of animal bites or stings you, but there are poisons that act on contact with your skin or eyes, and there are others delivered by many extremely tiny stings, that are impossible to treat in this way.
That's a Smarts & Healing roll, considering the Poison's intensity as the Difficulty of the roll.
However, to attempt this, the Golden Hour rule doesn't apply. You only have a timeframe of 5 rounds to attempt this, otherwise the poison will enter the bloodstream and the effect will become systemic. Once this happens, the victim can only be cured by an Antidote of the proper intensity, manufactured using the Brewery System.

If the healing attempt is successful, the effects of the poison are stopped — Stunned or Knocked out victims regain movement and consciousness, but all the Fatigue or Wounds already made by the poison do not go away. That requires a different healing attempt.
Each character has only one chance to make a Healing roll to cure poison.
